Saw him play at Wembley in some All Star Game can't remember the occasion too long ago...saw Stan Matthews ar The Dell as well.
Me to. Had a search for details couldn't find anything but came across this. The Dell !966 on a Dutch blog https://doingthe116.wordpress.com/2012/03/28/de-woensdagfoto-the-dell-1966/ The wonders of the internet know no bounds. I was probably there in the Milton. please log in to view this image
Love that photo......I'm pretty sure that my Dad took me to see Sir Stan for an exhibition match when Saints had their floodlights installed at the Dell, I'm guessing early to mid fifties! Mr Yashin, We were bussed down from Cosford so I would've been 15 or 16, the OIC of Soccer encouraged us to drink and we got blotto and chased around Daventry by the locals after spewing up from the top of a big-wheel at a little fair they had. Think they were happy days but memories are fading now......Edit. It's coming back they were great days!
I might be wrong, but my memory says he played for Stoke against Saints towards the end of the season 61/62... April evening game. Seem to remember being in the chocolate box. Saints won 5-1. 2 for the recently departed George O'Brien..
I loved those mad crazy days following Saints. I still say The Dell was the best ground I have ever been to, and this team wasn't too shabby either .....
There was some quality in that team. What would they be worth in today’s market? Have we ever had a better goal scoring midfielder than David Armstrong (other than Le God, if he qualifies as an out and out midfielder)?
Who is that between Chris Nichol and Steve Moran - he is the only one I can't put a name to, even though he is familiar? David Pucket?
It is Trevor Hebberd. FFS this is the best team we have ever had. You should have their names etched on your heart.
A fascinating interview with a saints fan and ex saints groundsman now responsible for Wembley's pitch. It start at around 46.15 https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m000hhf8
https://www.southamptonfc.com/news/...lleys-southampton-football-club-21-april-2020 I love Matty's for the fact that he just looks like he's on the training ground, and he makes it look so easy I remember this 90s run v Newcastle, every year they came to The Dell and the 2 'company' seats next to me had friendly Geordies in them, every season we beat them. Happy days
