And now AFC with the old 'I hate confrontation, let me end this' meme.

64 million dollar question... will Archer respond? Or will he give the 64 million dollars to Branson?

You really think Billionaires are going to allow their assists become worthless due to short term cash flow issues if refused Govt underwritten loans?

Maybe they’d just leverage their assets and obtain commercial funding underwritten by them instead. Just a thought like.

I think without a furlough option there’d be plenty of lay offs by large companies for low skilled positions that they think they could easily replace when things start moving again. Plenty of companies have already laid people off instead of using the furlough system.

I wasn’t being sarcastic in my response by the way, I do think it’s a good idea to withhold certain government assistance from companies based in tax havens to avoid paying a fair share of UK tax (not individuals who are based abroad but the companies doing this for tax avoidance). I was merely pointing out the flaws in the approach which would need to be thought about for effective application. Businesses should be encouraged to pay a fair share of tax and there should be a benefit to those who do such as easier access to government help. We would just need to be careful of the unintended consequences and how we would deal with them.

It’s simple really. If you choose to operate your business from a tax haven and therefore escape the fiscal responsibility of paying tax and contributing to our Society, then don’t come crying and asking for assistance if you need Societal help.

I really don’t care what the knock on consequences are for upholding that basic premise, as if ever there was a time to hammer home to the populous that actions have consequences in regards to tax evasion - it’s now.

**** Virgin Atlantic. The routes they operate are popular and if they close, other operators will appear to replace them. Maybe Branson is struggling to obtain funding as his Virgin Atlantic business hasn’t made a cumulative profit over the last 6 or 7 years.

Since there is a surplus of airline capacity does it really matter if Virgin Atlantic folds as it will just make the survivors more viable .
Is it my imagination or didn't Branson have a large holding in Flybe ?

Whilst I agree completely, it's tax avoidance not evasion. The reason why this difference is important to mention is because evasion is easily tackled... but avoidance is legally acceptable though often morally corrupt, especially in big business. And that is really the problem here... along with the legal loopholes that facilitate it.

I’m fully aware of the legal definition thanks. Maybe the real issue is that the distinction actually exists, as in my book they should be one and the same.

But hey, when Govt hires expensive tax avoidance lawyers to help close loopholes and alter regulations, and then those self same lawyers use the information that they gleamed to then help their clients evade the next set of regulations that they helped sculpt, then is it any wonder........

I don't like Branson or his airline, used to fly with them in the early days, wouldn't touch them with a barge pole now. Hopefully he'll go up in one of his space rockets and it'll blow up.

No idea, but given they’ve only recorded a decent net profit once in 6 years, I doubt it.

I think if it was your family depending on one of those thousands of jobs gone up in smoke to make a point to billionaires you may think differently. If it takes food off your table is the noble premise still worth it?

Like I said, I like the idea but trying to implement without plans to deal with the fallout is negligent and totally disregards the ordinary people who would take the hit.
