Personally I'd rather they helped the 10,000 UK employees in return for shares or a demand on future dividends.

 

I’m sure the thousands of people who would lose their dream jobs will feel the same.

Afaik he’s looking to pump about £200m of his own money into the Virgin Group to help deal with the effect on the business of coronavirus.

 

He’s a billionaire mate.He could pump 95% of his wealth into saving his company and still have more money than he would ever need.
If I went to my bank and asked for a 10k loan and they saw I had 500k in the bank, they’d think I was mad!

I doubt there are any billionaires who have 95% liquid assets that they could just immediately pump into a business. Given that a huge amount of the wealth will be the value of the businesses...

 

Yeah but he doesn’t need 95% of his wealth to save the airline. I just used 95% to illustrate how much money he has.

Richard Branson is a self absorbed parasite. Virgin was the first airline to ask for a handout, now he's trying to turn it into a commercial loan by putting his island up as collateral. He bought the island for $180k and it's now valued at around $60m. He's asked for £500m.

Yeah but it does look like on top of the £200m he is looking to pump in he may need another £500m for Virgin Atlantic and Virgin Australia are looking for £720m.

There is zero chance he has ready access to £1.5b to just pay himself to save the businesses. Ignoring for a minute that he isn’t the sole shareholder of any of the businesses we are discussing.

It’s far more likely the business will need to get loans, which is why they’ve approached the government for a loan.
