Don’t think it’s just me. Anyone who says they’re not feeling it is either drunk or lying imo. (Boris Johnson is almost certainly both).

 

Hahaha, to become a resident on Grand Cayman, you need a minimum income of $150,000 a year, earned off the island, plus a minimum of $500,000 cash in the bank, plus you need to invest a minimum of $1,200,000 on the island itself.

But yeah send them some free masks and plassie aprons, times are hard.

 

Yeah because there’s no normal people living there at all. They don’t have bars and restaurants, supermarkets, tourist companies or regular people living regular lives.

And it’s not about money, it’s about helping with sourcing of PPE for our overseas territories which shouldn’t just not count because there’s wealthy people living there.

You try and put a positive spin on everything the government does, even when it's something as transparent and crass as this.

 

Mate if you lot want to see it as a bad thing that we are trying to help others during this then by all means continue to live in a world of negativity.

 

They can't provide doctors and nurses in London with PPE but they're sending kit to an island where rich folk hide their cash. That's spot on.

 

Their own Govt should provide it, maybe from the tax revenue they generate by lumping ridiculous tariffs on anything imported that’s charged to all, and not based on income or therefore levels of wealth.......

There is loads of PPE being delivered all over the UK, but of course it’s an ongoing effort. And as far as I’m concerned we have a duty to assist our overseas territories and just because there are some rich people living there shouldn’t mean that help isn’t extended. And there’s plenty of non-rich people there who will benefit from having PPE.

Should we not bother sending PPE to Chelsea? Or other “rich” areas of the UK?

 

Yeah the import tariffs are insane. Pint of milk will set you back almost a fiver. (Edit: I clearly remembered it as even more expensive than it was! More like £3 for a litre of milk. Still everything costs a stupid amount)

It’s clearly not an issue of being able to afford it but about sourcing and I don’t see a problem with helping with that.

 

The GDP per capita of the Cayman Islands is the 7= highest in the world, alongside Kuwait. UK is 24th.

Are we sending the same levels of PPE to the less well off overseas territories?

 

The article posted talks about it being made available to all overseas territories and crown Dependencies and that the government is working to find out the level of demand and how much help is needed.

Cayman is just being used to try and get the anti-rich people vibe on the go.
