Do what they do here due to a limitation of both buildings and teachers and do two sessions, one from 7-12 and the other from 1-6. Here the teachers sometimes have to do both shifts. That's probably not an issue in the UK.

My fathers girlfriend died yesterday, we are waiting to see the results but I wouldn't be surprised the cause of death is given as Corona.

Common sense would say keep to the same standards but have some of the scope reduced so that it's still the same level but with less of the curriculum in the papers.

my degree was a scientific one but i knew after the first year that i wasn't going to be in that industry as i found it super ****ing boring. I kept up with it though as i didn't want to have wasted a year and a years worth of fees. Luckily i graduated with a 2:1 and took the mathematical method of basically looking at past papers, looking at the ideal answers to the the questions that come up (at my uni it was 6 questions pick 3) and crammed each subject before each exam.

I remember absolute zilch from my uni days unfortunately. Still though, i wouldn't have missed my uni experience for anything (mainly cause i'm lazy and it suits me to just sit around all day)

Comedy central in here. It does back up the point I’ve been making that there’s deaths going down as Covid-19 when that’s probably not the reason. No amount of amazingly quick witted humour is going to change that.

Nowt humourous about that stat from Care England ... nobody is disputing that the vast number of casualties have had underlying health issues ... but the vast majority of those would not have died when they did if Covid-19 hadn't delivered the coup de grace ... many would have lived for many years more <ok>

Article in the Telegraph today about how 2/3 of children are not accessing online work set by schools.

Whilst the article has its flaws (namely the fact schools are unlikely to set work during the Easter hols anyway) this is already an issue being discussed in our school.

We were already very wary of the pitfalls of setting a vast amount of work online e.g. too much screen time, not everyone having adequate access to computers/tablets, the fact that families with say 3 children will require more computers/tablets and it will be harder to manage, less parent/child interaction, lack of actual written or practical learning, difficulty for children with SEN.

Currently we're reviewing alternative strategies but it's not easy. The thinking is looking at setting more independent practical learning activities that parents and children can get involved in e.g. setting cooking recipe tasks or gardening activities which cover both Maths and English, promoting sites like BBC Bitesize which has just started delivering lessons so children have as close to a traditionally recognised set up as possible in their home. Tbh one thing this has confirmed to me at least is that online learning will never be a good substitute for traditional learning.

the only accurate(ish) figure will be the total deaths compared to the same period in other years just like they do with flu which was why the recent ONS figures were so alarming since they appear to indicate a massive undercount .

You’d expect a lot of deaths in care homes from a virus that mainly affects the elderly and those with other health problems as that is what care homes are full of. If there’s an outbreak at a care home it’s unsurprising that you’d get some people die. So I’d assume the figures are higher than what the ONS has been able to collate so far, which is a figure of about 200-ish deaths I think.

Just what I've quoted from Care England ... 7,500 more deaths than on average for this time of year <ok>

those are the ones with covid-19 shown as a factor in the death but the figures of total deaths suggested a much much higher figure .

    Edit -
The Office for National Statistics said in the week ending 3 April the virus was cited on 3,475 death certificates.

It pushed the total number of deaths in that week to over 16,000 - a record high and 6,000 more than normal at this time of year when deaths tend to fall.
