Listened to the match on the radio today and it sounded like he had another cracking game at the back. His partnership with Hobbs seems to keep growing and both players look to be becoming our best defensive partnership since Brown/Turner. At the end of the game Swanny said it probably won't be long before the big clubs come sniffing round him. Should we be worried about losing him? I think/hope he'll stay here, he's still developing as a player and a move to a PL club might holt his progress if he ends up on the bench all the time rather than starting. He seems to be improving all the time and we could end up with a very good player on our hands, hopefully he'll remain our player in the future!
I think he's already one fo the best defenders at this level. I've said it a few times, but his one-one-one tackling is the best I've seen in a City player. He always times it to perfection and comes away with the ball every time. To answer the question though, no I don't worry about losing him. Because we get absolutely no media recognition on a national level, and I really don't think anyone gives a **** about us, we're seen as an average championship side like a Coventry or a Watford by the neutrals and I think the 'big clubs' would rather go and look at one of these players at teams like Leeds, Reading or Forest who get all the attention from neutrals. We'll just carry on quietly sneaking up the table without picking up the plaudits.
I can't see many premier league teams going for him. He's very much unproven and lacks height to cut it in the premier league imo.
Chester's age works in our favour imo, if Swansea, Norwich, Blackburn, Wolves etc are down near the bottom in January and looking for new defenders, I think they'd be more likely to go for someone with a bit more experience than Chester.
He argued with me on this last week, comparing him to Phil Jones and Chris Smalling I personally think he can be our permanent captain in the near future. His height doesn't (and never has) concerned me, you see him winning headers in the box and against the opposition's 'target man' all the time. I agree with the point about our low profile as a club as well - we saw this at the beginning of the season, when none of the coveted experts tipped us for the top six. I don't think any PL clubs will have heard of James Chester, never mind be interested in signing him. JC has never been around the England youth set up either, so I don't think he's a player who's commonly known, even at this level
Tbh that arguement was brilliant. But thats the point he is never going to be as good as Phil Jones and Smalling but does that mean he won't cut it at the Premier League level? No, it just means like Shawcross who left United he is not quite the elite level, but he will be good enough for the Premier League.
I dunno. I love Chester, I think he's a tank, but I thought the same about Brown. He had one weakness which was pace and he got torn to shreds in the prem. Chester lacks ariel presence and I think in the premier league, he could get exposed.
So to put another spin on things, I personally think Chester could do a job in the PL , but to save starting a new thread if we went up how many would say Chester ain't good enough , lets get rid of him.
Height doesn't matter if your good enough and this lad is. Specially if he's playing with a big lump alongside him. Instinct and timing are massive assets and he seems to have this is spades. I thing the earlier posting about teams struggling and looking for experience is correct. And I think we are safe with him for some time yet, if we pay him enough.
James Chester is hugely overated on here,he's a dwarf centre back and if it wasn't for Jack Hobbs carrying him,we'd get murdered every week.I so wish we could have Sonko back. Chester mistimes tackles,is too small to stand any chance of ever heading the ball and iv'e heard he is an alcoholic. James Chester= CRAP !
We obviously don't watch the same games when we attend them, his timing is almost perfect, the amount of challenges he actually enters and comes away with the ball is amazingly high, I'm not sure I can agree Hobbs carries him, Hobbs again is a quality defender but to say he carries him is a bit over the top, they have formed a good partnership probaly the best in the championship at the moment. in terms of value chester was a bargain and Hobbs at the time probaly a little over priced
Exchange the name James Chester to Jack Hobbs and your probably right. Out of positiion again for the goal, left a small defednder (rosenior) with their forward.
Don´t Manchester United have first option on him or was that just a rumour? All the talk of his height is a red herring how many teams have two tall strikers? The reverse is often said that big men are poor on the floor and slow on the turn so we have one big defender to attack the ball and one quicker who reads the game well with decent full backs so what is the problem?
