Good Morning. It's Monday 20th April, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

Championship rival call for transfer embargo for the Whites

An unnamed Championship Club have called for a transfer embargo for the clubs who have an arrangement with their players to defer their wages.

The Sun's Alan Nixon has named Leeds, along with Swansea, Wigan and Luton who have angered the likes of Preston, West Brom and Boro who believe they have “have stood by their players in full during the crisis” and will be at a disadvantage once the transfer window opens!

According to the Chairman of the unnamed Championship outfit “It [deferring wages]is just kicking the can down the road. These clubs should be in for a transfer embargo.” Strong words there but then these are also followed up by equally strong sentiments.

Why should those who balance the books and pay their players in full be punished? We won’t sit back and watch these teams make signings.” That veiled threat of ‘we won’t sit back’ intimates that there is a sentiment that is wrong and that clubs feeling aggrieved by this will push for action.

Football governing bodies exploring neutral venues to conclude season

The Times have claimed that should the rest of the rest of the season be allowed to resume, all remaining matches would not only have to be played behind closed doors, but at neutral venues.

The news comes following a meeting between the governing bodies of football last Friday.

The move is meant to minimise the demands on public services and broadcasters during the coronavirus pandemic.

“I definitely think that is the most likely solution. It is starting to make sense to everyone.

“Safety of all those is paramount and a limited number of venues also minimises the risk of spreading the virus as well as making it easier to prepare the actual stadium with a deep clean and so on.”

    Is this sensible or not?

If games were being played at Elland Road (behind closed doors), would swarms of fanatical Leeds fans congregate outside?

    Bowyer unhappy to complete season

Former Leeds legend Lee Bowyer has detailed how fulfilling the remaining nine games cf the 2019/20 season could have a detrimental effect, not only on Charlton, but other Championship outfits.

"There are so many details that people aren't thinking about,"

"Once you get to the 30th June, say you do start playing in the middle of June and play three games, with six left to go. Then come the contract problems.

"Lyle Taylor, his contract finishes on the 30th of June. If he decides not to extend it, it's okay UEFA and FIFA saying players are going to have to extend their contracts, legally they don't have to.

"They will be going to another club and getting more money. Why would he then risk getting a long-term injury? I'm using him as an example, he's my player. Would he then run around and give me 100% as he would any other time when he could have a dream move that will secure him for the rest of his life at the age of 30?

"These are the problems they are going to have. We've got 14/15 that finish on the 30th of June. Six loans and nine players. You're telling me that players we've told 'sorry, we're not going to extend your contract' and then it comes to the end of June 'oh sorry, we need you for another month'.

"They will be like 'are you joking? You tell me I'm going and then you want me to run around for you and try?' These are the problems nobody is actually thinking about."

Should Leeds united erect a statue outside Elland Road in memory of Norman Hunter?

There's not many occasions when the word 'legend' can be used so accurately to describe such a great man.

Should they retire the No 6 shirt?

If 'Bites yer legs' deserves a memorial, why doesn't Speed or Madeley?

Morning Elland and all. As far as I’m concerned club should erect statues of all Revies team Who have passed. Legends who played a colossal
Part in putting Leeds into so many people’s lives. As for what anyone has to say on what way should season end or not, all any of it is one persons opinion and won’t affect outcome. Only one thing will dictate how
    Or if season ends

Where would they put the ball? The crowd used to sing butterfingers to him. Des O'connor sang a song about him.

Someone suggested a wall of players and it would be lovely to see the Revie team acknowledged that way as they put Leeds on the map. It would be nice for those still here to see it too

Maybe I'm being stupid, but assuming football does restart behind closed doors in England we'd have 7 divisions hoping to start playing. Don't see how neutral venues will make anything easy?

Afternoon all, no problem here with the remainder of the games being played at neutral locations but you'd have two teams travelling to a neutral venue rather than one. Seems a bit strange but as long as they can finish this season....

I don't see what advantage there is in using neutral stadiums. The only reasons put forward that I can see are safety & cleaning between matches. Sorry, but I don't get that. Safety? We're only looking at 2 teams, their entourages, match officials, & essential ground staff. Surely whatever protocols are employed at these as yet un-named venues can be rolled out across every stadium? Sure there might be exceptions, & perhaps these clubs could then use the proposed venues. I could see our matches being played quite happily at TA if ER was ruled out. Why would we have to travel? Nothing to bloody clean there apart from the changing rooms!

Personally, I want home advantage where it's due. I can see this proposal causing more arguments than it will solve. Home advantage is highly prized, especially at the end of the season when you've got something to play for.

If Sky are involved it will be like their "Magic" Weekend in Rugby league. I would imagine the venue would host a game at 7pm Friday, Saturday would see a 12pm, 3pm and 7pm game and then the same on Sunday. Sky just have one location and get 6-7 games out of it. The pitch might look a mess by the time the Sunday games start

These football chiefs really are on another planet - really makes my blood boil.
I know they have to say stuff like this to appease the fans, but seriously!!!!!!!

The 2 metre distancing rule would still apply to footballers.
The EFL have said that every player would need to be tested prior to every game to overcome this - wtf -That's Every game in Every division. Matchday squad of 17 players per side, managers, assistant managers, coaches and physios, ref, linesman and 4th official, substitute ref. That's at least 50 people without the ground staff and medical personnel.
Do the EFL chief not watch the news FFS, there's not enough testing kits to test NHS staff.

    Leeds playing Sunday then? <laugh>

I think the neutral venue idea is to stop thousands of Leeds fans congregating outside ER with their carry-outs.<cheers>

So Sky benefits? But no-one else does! Why?, this is about football, not Sky.

Home advantage is an ideal, and absolutely essential for many at this stage of the season. If it's to suit Sky, we'll be playing all our matches in London, and you know what that means! <yikes>
