Can I say in Godders defence that he is exactly the type of old man I aspire to become :)

Also, guys, let's not fight or argue amongst ourselves until we have Ralph playing Ings at left back and Shane misses another 2 yard shot. We will never agree on everything, but what draws us here is our disagreement of Saints.

    COYR!!!!!!!!

Its getting scary, to be honest.

He is getting close to tyrannical at this point. He is doing many things which would have been called un-American and un-democratic just a few years ago, yet now he has unwavering support.

He is much closer to acting like Putin than acting like a normal president

I’m sure Harry Redknapp did a series of ads for 888. Wouldn’t be at all surprised to learn he’s behind the whole thing.

He’s providing a major test for the US Constitution, which was specifically designed with reference to the possibility of having to restrain tyranny from within the institutions of State.

From revolution to slavery, civil war, genocide of native peoples, the Great Depression, Pearl Harbour, the Jim Crow South, Vietnam, assassinations of it’s leaders - the entire history of the USA is a history of bloody trauma. So far it has emerged from all these traumas stronger, better, fairer, more united. Even the Lakota Sioux, who fought and lost an existential battle in the 19th Century, overcame the past and became a real presence and force for good in the 21st.

Actually you could apply all above to Europe’s history too - it’s just that in the US, all the trauma has been compressed into a much shorter timescale; anyway the point is, despite the brutal and troubling past and present, the lesson from history is that hope triumphs over despair.

I was saying to my Mum a few weeks back that I can envisage a point coming where Trump will be relinquished from his powers. There have not been any mutterings so far to suggest the wheels are currently in motion to do this but the messages from the White House have been a combination of the mixed and illogical. In a time of crisis, someone is eventually going to have to take proper control. I can see a situation where Trump is gradually side-lined if the situation persists.

It will be quite interesting to see what happens in the UK too. This morning's newspapers are not good reading for Boris. Irrespective of his own illness, Johnson and his government have performed badly. This cannot be challenged from whatever perspective you look at things. When a former chief medical officer describes Matt Hancock's statements as being border-line lies, it is deeply concerning. I have not read anywhere of Johnson having had a breakdown as mentioned above, but he has been totally ineffectual. I am sorry that he was seriously ill yet I think it would have been the ideal opportunity for his power to have been relinquished and a coalition government formed. It is not really the time for party politics yet I strongly feel that there are too many incompetent and dishonest people amongst the current incumbents.

One question I have not seen asked or discussed is whether the government would have been better to have nationalised all essential businesses instead of having the current furlough scheme. This strikes me as being eminently sensible but I cannot understand why it has not happened, even in the short term. I imagine that the legal constraints would have been challenged but it the idea of limited, temporary nationalisation that impractical? I think it would have made management a lot more coordinated.

    WOW!

I had wondered whether the right wing press was partly following a populist line in kicking the govt, but this is damning

PM didn’t even attend the COBRA meetings!
No prep in those first weeks!
They just tried to say what they thought we wanted to hear and did nothing!

How the hell did we end up with Boris and Trump at a time when we needed some real leadership?

You don’t get the leaders you want, you get the leaders you deserve. Sadly, they were both voted in by a populace that thought they knew best.

What was it the little boy said "Oh look the Emperor has no clothes on."

Johnson sought sycophants rather than competence for his Cabinet and is now paying the price. You can get away with being a **** leader if you have good Generals but if you are a **** leader with crap inexperienced Generals you've lost the war before it starts.
