You’ll like this. None of ventilators designed under the Government’s ‘competition’ were fit for purpose. That’s because the Government's own minimum standard specification said that the ventilators should be capable of supporting a patient for ‘a few hours’. Some COVID 19 patients are ventilated for three weeks. Dr Alison Pittard, head of the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine is not impressed. https://apple.news/AAMIVABCQRUyFUSWCzwpJkg
Pardon my usual ignorance, but what does that mean? Do the “a few hours” ventilators conk out, or are they not as powerful, or do they lack the “machine that goes ping”? Oh, what’s it all about, Stanley? The report also says the specification was drafted and signed off by experts. Me no compreno.
Reading the story it seems that it’s either a case of the government ignoring the ‘experts’ like Dr Prittard and getting their own ‘experts’ in...... or Dr Prittard is lying and her ‘experts’ never told them what they really needed ie that they needed to last more than a few hours at a time I guess people need to make their own minds up.
It’s a tricky one for sure......Either Dr Prittard is a point scoring rabble rouser who just wants any opportunity to get one up on the government... Or she’s trying to do her job in difficult circumstances and is shocked that no one in authority cared to listen to what was needed in the first place..... Maybe we should have a poll ?
Dunno Ubes, I just bring you the stories. Sounds like a cock up somewhere along the line though. As Stainsey says, your expert might be my bloke down the boozer. One undeniable thing is that the majority of these things are stuck in regulatory bureaucracy, think only one is in production. Not too bothered by it overall, turns out ventilators, even the ones that go bing, don’t save that many lives.
A right royal **** up springs to mind. Badges are more important and a real scientific breakthrough in this pandemic.
I have gone on all the main media sites regarding this story and can't find it? I guess it's today's 'lets bitch at the government'. The thing is when speaking to my mates of all political parties they all seem to be together in not bitching about the government's handling. It just seems to be the usual few on here.
Piers Morgan was grilling Hancock earlier in the week about the very issue. Don’t think Hancock came up with an answer. I don’t get it. Ventilators are machines, like microwaves or radios or whatever. Why wouldn’t they survive for mor than a few hours. Makes no sense.
