basically we can get players way above out standard for over a decade... its a case of choosing the right ones, investing in areas such as training facilities, the academy and over time even with set backs over 5 to 10 years the club will have moved forward and from there it will snowball.
This ^^^ If you look at Man City, they stuck with Mark Hughes until they were in a position to let rip with the money
I genuinely wouldn't mind but considering Steve Bruce was a top class centre back I don't get why he can't coach centre backs.
In terms of iconic clubs, where would you say we rank? It’s not a scientific question but I was thinking about the likes of Chelsea and City neither of whom I think of as iconic regardless of trophies or wealth. I’d go Liverpool or Man U 1st/2nd, then probably Arsenal as the biggest in London. After that would you not have Newcastle as an iconic club? I always think of Everton, Spurs, Wolves and City as “lesser” clubs of their respective cities so don’t see them as iconic Villa might have something to say, but I think it’s easy to commercialise Newcastle United because we’re one of the great clubs. Obviously not in terms of wealth or success. Or am I mental and biased?
i think you're about right tbh, but the trophy situation is what most people rate clubs on which is short sighted imo, but understandable.. The fact is with these owners the roof will come off like in the 90s , but unlike then it can be sustained. I see only one issue and that is that it will be more difficult and take a longer time to get there.. Once we do people will still say irritating things like " not a proper big club " These people carry an emotional agenda behind their opinions , so that will never be any different or worse, however we will be winning more than we lose , so just ignore them and smile.
Indeed. I still don’t view City or Chelsea as big clubs. Rich, sure, with bought success. But not what I class as big or iconic. And on the flip side, even if NUFC are backed by the wealthiest, we won’t be bigger than Man U. Not now, not ever, you can’t erase 100 years of football.
Everyone knows Newcastle United! Mainly cos of Shearer. Ask them about Wolves, Villa, Leicester etc and they know nowt about em. As a brand we are big!
