My worst 11 but believe nd there could be dozens of variations of this! Gk-Scott Thompson (the worst keeper I think I've ever seen) Df- Phil Brumwell Df-Sonko (biggest panic buy ever) Df-Matt Wicks Df-Michael Price (lots of promise, now playing fir Goole) Mid-Chris Bettney Mid-Steve Melton (did anyone rate him) Mid-Jon French Mid-David Lee Fw-Jason Harris (paid 50k fir him from Preston when we never spent money! Useless) Fw-Mark Hatley (massive let down tried to do it all.........and failed) Anyone even remember most of these also shout to kenny Gilbert Danny Webb Sergio leite the list goes on of rubbish tigers!!
The 97/98 team finished 91st out of the 92. Without some unusual goings on at Doncaster,we may have lost our football league status. Must be in with a shout as a collective group.
Anthony Gardner has to be in there, whether it's down to the return on the fee we paid, being another Folan/Bamber (massive, but a pussy) or being at fault for every single goal in the 09/10 season, this guy truly was an awful defender.
I realise I'll always be in the minority on Gardner, all I can say to argue my point is to watch a video of the 09/10 season, some sort of compilation of all the goals, if one exists. You'll see that either through Folan-like battling spirit, 10-yard marking or a ridiculous desire to not head the ball, that Gardner was literally at fault for one or two goals every match in that season. ...and our hammering at Millwall at the beginning of this season, for which poor Nobby took all the blame.
Agree with you about Duke but he was quite reliabel over tghe years when Myhill was here. It's only recently since he's been relied upon as our number at times that he's been useless. Sonko was a ridiculous deal financially. Letting go of our best player and replacing him with someone not as good on higher wages. But I don't think he was anywhere near as bad as some people made out, he just became the popular scapegoat over time and no one dared to disagree. But in terms of being an awful defender, he couldn't compete with Gardner.
There was also Danny Coles, who started off all right, but towards the end became an unmitigated disaster.
Ritchie Appleby - quite a big money signing for us at the time I seem to remember, but only played a handful of matches and never looked any good whatsoever!
Also, I think Kevin Ellison was absolutely hopeless. No pace for a winger, terrifyingly one footed, terrible in the air for a tall lad and a woeful final ball. Maybe this was just because he was filling Elliott's big shoes wide on the left, but he was worse than average!
My strongest memory of Ellison was when he played against us for Tranmere, he was taking a throw in right in front of us and a bloke in the row behind shouted 'Ellison, you ****ing City reject', he completely turned round and shouted back 'go **** yourself', fair play to him.
David Mail and Chris Lee could be the utility players for a crap Hull City XI, they could 'play' anywhere and be completely useless.
Simon Trevitt now lives local to me here in sunny West Yorkshire. He is a postman I think but still plays some football- watched him last year in a local "Yorkshire Legends" match.
