I saw an interview earlier today, where they was discussing the need for fruit pickers, obviously it was mentioned where they were talking of flying in Eastern Europeans. It's the soft fruit season, so i'm guessing stuff like Strawberries etc. There was talk of allowing furlough employees, being able to earn additional income if they wanted to do it, on top of their 80%, as long has their employers had no objections, thoughts?

I know some people are desperate to get out the family home, probably a good alternative for those that fancy it.

I believe a lot of people applied for such jobs a few weeks ago but they struggled to fill many of them. It’s one thing to fill the role with a local but another to fill it and do it with the same productivity.

There will also be a lot of people who have lost their jobs who could do with the money and will be applying. A lot of zero-hour contract workers and temps have been laid off.

They mentioned that Germany and France also had the same need, Germany was far greater numbers I believe. The only hurdle that I've seen against doing the jobs is the location of some of the farms, but if you have transport and are reasonably fit, it's extra income for sure, begging to be earned. Although I don't know how much farmers pay these days, been a long time since I've done it.

Apparently lots applied, not many turned up and very few came back on the second day.

I agree. It's been gorgeous weather for doing it.

Trump is a ****ing ******.

Withdrawing $400m from the WHO because they said China had responded well to Covid.

boo hoo <wah>

****ing petulant little ****.
He personally praised the Chinese President Xi only weeks ago, talking about conversations they’d had about the crisis. He did the same about the WHO.

He’s now decided he needs a scapegoat to cover for his own failures, including the denial it was anything more than flu, through to him labelling it a Democrat hoax. Taking away WHO funding is the desperate act of a windmilling narcissist.

Can I do it from home <whistle>

There you go then winds, go and show us how it's done mate, take pics and post them on here <ok>

I wouldn’t want to do it and I’m very fortunate that I’m considered skilled and, touch wood, still employed. I don’t actually think such jobs are unskilled at all but I don’t make the rules.

Do you mean like click and collect <whistle>

<laugh>

I was thinking more like planting a few spuds in the back garden.

Ever been fruit-picking btw? Went with the kids once and enjoyed it alot. Appreciate it's nowhere near the same, but if I was to do it, maybe try it as a family, especially with the kids off school. Don't know if that would work, maybe a few days a week, but it's worth a shout.

I thought you put yourself forward for volunteering, now's your chance to live up to all these great words you speak and show us that good old British working spirit, you talk so much about :bandit:
