The building sector here is starting to grind to a halt. Still some decent jobs happening but sole traders like myself have either stopped or coming to the end of a job with nothing else to go onto. I've flogged myself over the last 12 months and having just completed a large project a fortnight ago, the body needs a rest but the bank manager says otherwise. l'm having an enforced layoff at present and will see where it takes me. The feelers are out but no one is biting yet. As you say, to follow the distancing guidelines in the building game, is impossible. Commonsense must prevail.
An interesting article analysing positive responses to the outbreak. Aside from the female leadership the key seems to be testing and a severe lockdown. Something which the UK has largely failed on much to our consternation. https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/14/asia/women-government-leaders-coronavirus-hnk-intl/index.html
In today's numbers 15 new cases 1401 cases in total 770 people have recovered 12 in hospital 3 in icu 9 deaths 70160 tests have been done
The fact that Nadine Dorries is Health Minister is arguably scarier than Covid-19 itself. Anyone happy to inject this vaccine when it arrives? Not sure I am.
I'd be 1st in queue if possible, without it you'll get it eventually and be living like a hermit to avoid it. I speak as someone who is 65 so much more vulnerable...
You won’t be offered it unless you are at risk through age, profession or underlying illness, at least not in the first couple of waves. Ponder for a moment the logistics of vaccinating 65 million people in a short period of time. I predict we will have gnashing of teeth and accusations of favouritism as some people (the healthy) are denied, a thriving private market, and the usual disadvantaged groups having lower uptake than the general population. There will also be intense international competition for supply, this stuff isn’t always easy to make, and certainly not in the huge volumes required. Blame will be apportioned if we are not near the top of the queue. I’d be happy to have one if offered, even though the testing will have been much, much less than most other vaccines, and will only work against this particular version of coronavirus, which could easily mutate, or be followed up by a new one - perhaps from an amusing and tasty ferret/eagle origin.
Never been a fan of Piers, he does seem to be one of a very few that actually scrutinises the government and rightly so. Could do with a few more doing the same to be fair. Did I hear correctly that 15,000 a day are flying in to the uk, some from coronavirus hotspots and not a single check is done on anyone?
True story - Today, l drove my work Ute to the local tip and they said, we can see you have an even numbers on your number plate and normally, we would allow you to come in and drop off your rubbish, however, because of Co-vid19, we noticed you have personalised number plates so they are classed as odd number plates, so will need to come back tomorrow. l said, are you fu@kin for real? He told me not to get abusive. So tomorrow, l have to drive my even numbered plated ute to the tip, on a odd numbered day of the month. If the fu@kers turn me away for having even numbers on my rego plates, l’ll be driving straight to the bottle shop! Is it any wonder l take a drink at the end of the week.
Agree, we are in a difficult situation. A vaccine is the exit strategy and the most important thing. However, as mentioned it will take some time to produce and distribute. I'm still not sure if I want to be injected with something like that, especially after seeing some of those videos on how they get to make these things. but then again I had all my injections when I was young and haven't had a problem. Hopefully, the new test kits will come soon. In a weird way, I hope I will test either asymptomatic or have had it. I watched a news report about the testing kits late last night. A £10 pregnancy type kit from South Korea which has now been tested here and got the thumbs up. I am sure many will try to buy them on Amazon or something?
I was inquisitive... I wouldn't buy one as I believe others are more important than me. Check this out when you go on Amazon and inquire... https://www.amazon.co.uk/b?node=21103026031
Just watched the lunchtime news on the Beeb. They followed their daily story of the amazing Major Tom, a truly inspiring example of humanity, with the latest news about Donald Trump - a man who will go down in history as someone who could have done so much that was good and positive but chose not to out of sheer spite, misplaced pride and total self-adulation and interest. The ultimate fake of all time.
