@Stan was thinking about your depressing comment and was thinking about how that translates to rock music as of course the lyrics are sometimes lost in the power of the music. One of the most horrific depressing songs I like is Animal by Pearl Jam, scary song. That refers back to the abuse suffered by Vedder when he was a kid or a gangrape or animal abuse.
Impossible task really, depends on mood but at this moment in time... Yellow Ledbetter - Pearl Jam Cortez the Killer - Neil Young Hero’s - David Bowie Papa was a Rolling Stone - Temptations Expansions - Lonnie Liston-Smith Doo Doo Doo - Job 2 do Cocaine - JJ Cale Sympathy for the Devil - Rolling Stones My Sweet Lord - George Harrison You Really Got Me - The Kinks
Loosing my religion - REM End of the world as we know it - REM Everybody Hurts - REM Nightswimming - REM The great beyond - REM Imitation of life - REM Bad day - REM Orange Crush - REM The sidewinder sleeps tonight - REM Man on the moon - REM Strange currencies - REM **** that's 11 and I could keep going... you get what I'm getting at REM were ****ing amazing
Interesting choices. Did you used to play in a band, if not, I get the impression you know how to play?
My mother insisted we learned to play an instrument at school and when we were bequeathed a piano in the early sixties my dad left home Somehow we scrapped up the money for piano lessons. A local guy just down the road had a group and I used to spend time with them just playing the hits of the day like the Kinks, The Who Stones & Beatles. We were not that good tbh but it was good fun. Can read music but mainly play harmonica for self amusement these days due to arthritis in my hands. Occasionally jam with a few mates here at the American music bar when they have an open mike evening.
Whirlpools End – Paul Weller Cut My Hair – The Who Tin Soldier – Small Faces Julia Jones – The Len Price 3 Down In A Tubestation at Midnight – The Jam Hanging Around – The Stranglers The Circle – Ocean Colour Scene Love In a Lift – The Members Rocks – Primal Scream Teenage Kicks – The Undertones
This isn’t one of the top ten songs of all time. I think it’ll make into my top ten lockdown choons though...
