I was trained as all service personnel were in biological warfare.
This country has had the strategic resource for years, until defence and health were put aside for self and wealth.
The fact is that as a country we spent too much time, money and thought on politics and not enough on the thing that was going to bite us, a pandemic.

What are the chances of a pandemic breaking out on any given year?

Is there an official percentage stat for that?

If you want ridiculous, one of Lincoln's claims to fame is that he was the first President to be in an inaugural photograph and bizarrely, John Wilkes Booth can also be seen in the photo, standing on a balcony above...at least so the claim goes. Have you seen the 'proof'? :emoticon-0100-smile

Both were shot by men with three names.

the planning assumption is once ev
From the top of my head.

    1918/19
    1968/69
    2019/20

I'm sure I've missed some but these are the ones I remember. 1918/19 because Egon Schiele and his wife died during it and 1968/69 from my childhood.

The UK government's position in 2017 was "There is a high probability of a flu pandemic occurring, but it is impossible to predict when, or exactly what it would be like."

From the same document "Over the past 25 years more than 30 new (or newly recognised) emerging infectious diseases have been identified around the world, such as Ebola, Zika and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome. The latter emerged recently in 2012 and poses a global health threat."

Finally "It is difficult to forecast the spread and impact of a new flu strain or disease until it starts circulating. However, consequences may include:

    • for pandemic flu: o up to 50% of the UK population experiencing symptoms, potentially leading to between 20,000 and 750,000 fatalities and high levels of absence from work."

The government knew this was coming, the only question was when.

Not having a go at you DMD.
This is a misuse of data. The figures are too low to make such sweeping statements. Seasonal flu isn’t a pandemic. If the deaths were not higher, no one would give a ****.

Pfft, what about personal responsibility? Shouldn't they put feeding their kids over having a home computer? :bandit:

How many will take this seriously?

Yesterday I spoke on the phone to my German friend who's son is a Doctor, If a person dies in Hospital there and they have Cancer or whatever, that is what is being put on the Death Certificate even if they have Corona Virus. It appears that here we are putting Corona Virus first and foremost.
    Makes you think.

A good point. How do the government intend to get the vouchers to those parents who have put feeding their kids before having a home computer or a mobile phone or two or three?
