Newcastle United's prospective new owners have reportedly earmarked Massimiliano Allegri as their number one choice as manager should their takeover of the Magpies go through.

A Saudi Arabian consortium headed by Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman is understood to be making progress in their £340m talks to buy Newcastle from Mike Ashley, who put the club up for sale in October 2017.

Italian journalist Fabio Santini, as per Arena Napoli, reports that the new owners will look to bring in former AC Milan and Juventus boss Allegri once the takeover is complete, sacking incumbent manager Steve Bruce in the process.

I hope thats all the information you need... ill stop now

Don’t expect Man City or PSG type investment but you’ll be able to make some big signings.

Look at his picture of Icardi <laugh>

You never heard of Icardi’s wife bro? She is effectively his agent and will only live in Paris or Milan.

I’m sure she’d love a shopping spree in The Metro Centre though fam.

Sacking Bruce immediately would be the first mistake.

The new manager better be very successful very quickly in that case.

If you're around the same place/slightly higher in 12 months after spending £100mil with a new manager on board you can be certain that the fans, perhaps not the match going ones, will start grumbling about it being no better than it was under Bruce and at least he was a local lad who understood the club.

With the right investment and strategy you will be. My only point is that trying to do it overnight could backfire to begin with. What Newcastle do have is a loyal fan base (apart from you). The stadium has been full during some pretty bleak times. City have a loyal fan base too but it's the same 25,000 people who were watching them in League 1. They've managed to attract lots of global placky fans but not many more regular matchgoing fans, so much so that they lie about their attendances. Newcastle's challenge won't be filling the stadium, it will be creating a large worldwide fan base in an already congested market.

That said, according to the board melt, matchgoing fans are irrelevant and the glorious future of football is the diehard watching dodgy internet streams while their mum is downstairs using the barbeque cleaning brush to try and get the skiddies out of their club crested underwear.

tbh I think it will take many years, but like I say I'm happy with top 8 and trying to win a cup. There will be big ups and downs if this goes through. It's nice to dream even if nothing at all comes of it.

btw I think gary nevilles a top bloke... probs my fav pundit..

“What I would say is that it felt to me as if the magic had gone,” Neville said.

“There’s no connection between the boardroom and the fans.

“What we’d all like to see is a thriving Newcastle United. The sway of investment has seemed to move south into clubs, and less investment into clubs up in the North East.

But if we can get a really strong Newcastle United where that ground is bouncing then we’ll all be happy.”

Anybody else prefer miserable, angry Roy?

I was hoping him and Comm were gonna have a stabbing match, looks unlikely now.

I finally managed to get to sleep at a reasonable time so missed the beef. I woke up to see that Comm had drunk his way into the cooler.
