‘In the Heat of the Night’ this morning with young Seb. He’s such a good lad for trying films I know the other kids at his school take the proverbial for him watching. Looking forward to this. We’ve been watching films in the morning while Mrs Andy and Matej are in deep hibernation. At midday, a vuvuzela and a cattle prod are used to gently rouse them.

My Dad sat me down to watch five particular films when I was a very young boy when they came up on television back in the day - you'll learn something, he'd say. "In the Heat of the Night" was one of them.
The others, in no particular order: Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (S. Poirier / S. Tracey / K. Hepburn); Inherit the Wind (S. Tracey / F March / G Kelly); To Kill a Mockingbird (G. Peck); Twelve Angry Men(H Fonda and anyone who was a somebody).
All fine examples of bigotry in action. Five must see films imho.

We watched Twelve Angry Men about a week ago. Mrs Andy joined us for that one. Lee J Cobb was particularly brilliant in that. Love that film. All great films you mention; anything in which Spencer Tracey is to be found is worth a watch. To Kill a Mockingbird is something I’m try to get Seb to read at the moment. Inherit the Wind is a terrific film. Yeah, all excellent choices. <ok>

Bad Day at Black Rock will complete my wishlist of Spencer Tracey films. The one real biggie with him I've not seen.

Absolutely awesome. In my top ten. Brilliantly told story, stunning acting from Tracey and Ryan particularly. I watched it with boys, but to avoid spoilers I won’t explain why till after you’ve seen it. <ok>

I've just watched the Swindon Arsenal League Cup final of 1969 on
    https://footballia.net
You have to sign up but it is free and there are many many matches from around the world to choose from. Unfortunately there are not many of ours but there is a full replay of the Liverpool match earlier this month. However, there will be a lot of games for which I am sure people on here do not remember the result - Piast Gliwice vs Gornik Zabrze in the 2012-13 season, anyone? You can also see how our former players are doing, for example André Carrillo, at Al Hilal in Saudi, or many of our loanees in Spain.

For the match in question a number of things came to mind.
    1) The Wembley pitch was worse than the White Hart Lane pitch in our semi-final against Chelsea.
    2) There was only one booking and it was seen as a big deal by the commentator, Brian Moore.
    3) Only having one commentator seems strange now.
    4) I'm not as good at distinguishing the different shades of grey as I used to be. It was made worse in this match as the players got covered in mud, which was a uniform grey.
    5) The game itself was very exciting and worth a watch.
    6) Don Rogers was good. Peter Downsborough, the Swindon goalkeeper was better.
    7) There were no replays in the broadcast
    8) Looking up the players on Wikipedia I didn't realise what a sad person Peter Storey was/is.

There are a few of our cup matches though - last years quarter & semi finals + QPR away. And two cup finals to avoid...

Just finished reading the Sir Elton John biography. A rather large part of it was devoted to his battle with drugs and drink but also the relationship with his mother. He clearly lived on a very different planet to most of us. I think a bit of research now on political figures before I attempt the Rolling Stones book I have. :emoticon-0107-sweat
