I think everyone views everything through their own political filter. (I certainly do)
The questions about when we chose to lock things down needs answering at a later date. Whether it’s right or wrong we can all decide later (which we’ll all use our political filter for)
The only thing I think does need proper exploration (which needs journalists to push on which was the most recent start of this part of the debate I think?) is whether or not factories in this country could be repurposed to make PPE. I’ve no idea whether they could or not, but the fact that the Govt keep saying it isn’t needed anyway because there is enough...when right now their plainly isn’t...is something worth pushing at otherwise no one will ask consider it, purchaser or supplier.
It would need someone centrally to say ‘ER yeh it does look like we could do with quite a bit more actually, so a billion masks if anyone can make them’ then we’d see if local UK manufacturing is possible or not.

 

Some workers in Spain are preparing to return to their jobs as lockdown restrictions are relaxed.

Workers in industry and construction will be able to return to work on Monday after a two-week shutdown closed all sectors apart from healthcare and food.

Shops will remain closed, apart from supermarkets, fruit stands, bakeries, butchers, news-stands and pharmacies.
Those who can work from home will be asked to continue this.

These rules are expected to remain into May.

The move will be watched closely by other countries, amid fears that lifting restrictions too soon could allow a second wave of the virus.

Those who do return to work should maintain social distancing, said Maria Jose Sierra, deputy head of health emergencies.

I would disagree completely about viewing through your own political filter in this emergency. a bit like football it’s immaterial

 

That's the price of globalisation, over the years the western world has drifted bit by bit to where we are today. Relying on cheap labour to produce, well almost everything in far away out of sight out of mind countries.

Maybe this is the reset button of how we see the whole world picture and things will be seen differently after this. Not so sure about that though.

 

We all view through a 'political filter' whether with a small or big P, decisions are made politically, you have quoted Peter Hithchins (?) a few times, though I agree let's just get through this for now, ask some questions now, learn through what we got right and wrong with benefits of hindsight and appreciate what we have and hopefully for many did not lose in the long term

 

Does anyone know how you report these bastards who continually break the lockdown rules?.....I'm no nark but a **** down our street as no regard for anyone in these difficult times.....everyday she as people round....rant over

In Cave this morning, I heard music really loud and thought 'the neighbours will love you', then looked closer and street Zumba or something was going on....

Also, how many essential journeys are people on, walking from Cave Castle to Costcutter, 23 cars passed!!!

 

I lose count on 60 cyclists over a 10 mile car journey the other day.

I don’t even see that many vehicles making the same journey at rush hour in normal times.

 

I don't disagree on the filter comment, it's inevitable, but it's the amount that colours the post content that can become an issue on here. There are varying strengths of filter, and some posts can tend to have a heavy political bias in the content, rather than being based on the situation or what limited facts there are available.

It should be easy to resolve this pandemic, as so many people seem to have become experts in such a short space of time.

Anyway, enough of that. Clearly the NHS are at the front line of dealing with those affected, and should get the maximum protection available or we're all ****ed, but I think there are others that also need protection, not just to protect them and their families, but to help reduce the spread. I'm thinking of shop workers, and in particular workers in care homes, where some residents showing symptoms are told to stay there unless it worsens, with the obvious risk of spread. The issue seems to be not simply equipment being available, but that equipment being suitable, and people being capable of using it correctly. That applies right down to face masks, where even NHS staff have been noted wearing them incorrectly.

All of which raises the thorny issue of how do we move on without a vaccine? Are touch screens at cash points etc liable to become a thing of the past? Presently it can only be a controlled return letting us all get it a few at a time.


An even bigger crime at the moment, is the millions of gallons of beer sat doing nothing in pub cellars. If anyone knows of any that are looking to be re homed, I'm happy to sacrifice some space at my house to do my bit.

I'm just glad I'm not faced with making the decisions. I think you should all be glad I'm not too.

 

I think you can add public transport workers to that list of people needing protection too. They are getting people around for essential journeys.
