All these numbers branded about surrounding death estimates are very puzzling. A few have mentioned some in this thread and to be honest, they are as good a guess as the experts who say 20000 or under. Who ****ing knows, we dont, they dont and we can keep on guessing until the whole population is tested. I sometimes get the feeling that all we are doing is hiding from this particular enemy (for want of a better word). It will eventually find us or at least it will until a vaccine is found and mass manufactured. That is the only way we will fight it and win. Until then we keep hiding.

I also don’t buy into this 20k amount being good and anything over the government will burn in hell. People forget the death toll in 2015 was 28k ( I believe). What if the final figure is 19,999 would the government be hero’s? Said before the are in a lose/lose situation..... however I have this sneaky feeling they might get away with this (if that’s the right thing to say).

It was the wrong use of wording. I was watching a film while typing. I should have said we as a country might get away with less than 20k deaths. Others will try and say different but that’s what I meant.

The figure of 20k deaths being a ‘good result’ didn’t come from the politicians, it came from Vallance. That’s why some of us are interested in it. Why would I be interested in what Hancock or Raab think, or Starmer or Sturgeon for that matter, they are no more expert than me? If the government is honest in ‘following scientific advice’ and this figure comes from its chief scientific adviser, then it’s relevant. They have set the benchmark, the target, not me.

And if you think this is the same as a bad year for flu, can you explain why the country is in economic and social shutdown and we have daily press briefings about it?

I didn’t say it came from politicians. I know it was valiance.
My point was that no one really knows how many it will kill. Vallance reckons 20k is ( a good result). Say it was 25k is that a bad result when in 2015 it was 28k? At the end of the day it’s easy throwing around figures but these are lives they are talking about. Hopefully we may get lucky and it won’t be has high as some of the figures I have read.
