China has now banned scientists from publishing studies into finding the origin of the virus.

No proof it started there obviously. Must have been Italy.

One of the better comments i've read during this corona virus pandemic...i lot of hysteria from the media and i'am all right jack attitudes from people on on social media about this, was a good article in the Guardian also about this pointing at that most of thoose people in one of the parks were from Brixton with no access to any other green spaces.

As long as a 2m distance is maintained, what's the problem with British residents being in public parks? What's the difference between being in a supermarket queue and being in a park?

The police should be there to offer polite reminders and remove nuisance offenders rather than enforce unnecessary rules on the normal public.

Before this outbreak, there were constant complaints that the police didn't have enough resources to solve burglaries, low level drug crime, stabbings or fly tipping, but they've now got the resources to throw couples off beaches and bark orders from loudhailers in rainbow-adorned cars.

It's more about necessity than similarity of distancing. We need to eat, hence being required to shop. It is still a big risk shopping but the alternative is to die of starvation, so its not a choice.

Notwithstanding mental health and comments made above; going to the park is less essential.

Also. 2m is a guideline. It reduces the chance of infection but its not enough to avoid infection. The best way to avoid infection is to stay inside with no contact with the outside world.

This is not about all of us getting infected. It's about avoiding infecting those most vulnerable in society. I'm not sure its effective even then.

There is evidence that moderate exercise helps with symptom recovery and time recovering, sitting still in relative Close proximity will only add to spread that will overwhelm service. I would also guess there is a positive impact on mental health ( & compliance with the rules / guidance?)

    OK, fair enough. :emoticon-0148-yes:
The full article is typical journalism in this day & age - high on speculation from hearsay, with no documented proof.
That's a big issue surrounding this particular global pandemic. Too many experts, soundbites and point-scoring going on. It's an extremely complex situation for those who need to get it right to solve the problem.

    Useful

Also I posted last night the ones on more locally measured deaths which can be read to complement that info as they strangely report deaths in a different way (for each Trust) than the number of cases (for each Council area). Probably nothing more than thats how they are recorded in the first place I suppose.

The data is published listed as Trusts, so presumably those figures include Hull as well as East Riding. It shows (if you click on 11th April sheet and then the 'by Trust' tab) 24 for HUTH Hospital Trust, but also 1 for Humber Teaching Foundation Trust.
If you look on the 'by region' tab it's not much use as it lumps all North East and Yorkshire together.
Of course those figures are only for those dying of it in hospitals, so don't include deaths in homes and care homes

    https://www.england.nhs.uk/statistics/statistical-work-areas/covid-19-daily-deaths/

Another mortuary being created in Hull in case, but looks like thats for whole Humber area

All very true, but people are just going shopping because they can.
Staff in shops complaining g that people are buying unnecessary items for the garden etc.
Others may see it as a necessity to keep people sane as been locked up at home will have different effects on different people.
Like you I'm not sure the 2m is enough, ivedropped stuff off for my parents, and stayed a lot more than 2m away for a quick 5min chat before going on my way.

I wonder if there is some sinister purpose or deliberate vagueness about the reported stats.

The simplistic scores per country are misleading.

America has as many people as Western Europe, so seen in that context maybe they are not so 'shocking'.

If you divide the number of deaths by the total population of a given country or region, you'll get a more representative figure for how bad the virus is there.

Similarly, it would be helpful if the govt could provide stats on how many deaths per age group (21 to 30 yrs, 31 to 40 yrs etc) so we could get a truer reflection of who is most affected.

We now hear some ethnicities are disproportionately affected. Is this biologically true? Or is it that they tend to live in built-up urban areas?

You would not pass your O level in Maths is you presented such simplistic open-ended data.
