I don’t believe there is a shortage, I think it’s what one person deems a necessity compared to another and the health minister has been dropping a few hints whilst trying not to offend.

For example, I deliver pharmaceuticals and it’s deemed I must wear a surgical face mask. That is the guideline, I think it’s fine, some of my colleagues feel they should have eye protection when serving behind the counter, the guideline is that it’s not needed.

I’ve noticed the Paramedics stationed next door to where I work from wearing the same masks as me, probably fine under normal circumstances but are they enough if they receive a call to attend a suspected covid19 patient? I deliver to care homes, some wear masks others don’t, I’m no longer allowed past the front desk, they’re all in lock down, zero visits from anyone including family.

I’ve heard a couple of staff moaning that I have a mask and they don’t have access to any. To be honest I don’t see why they need one, the patients don’t leave the complex and nobody is allowed in. I heard on the news a care home complaining that they didn’t have any ppe.

I’ve friends and family who are nurses, I believe there is slight confusion/discrepancies as to who needs full face visors and who doesn’t, a few departments just maybe having staff wearing them when there probably is no need. Yes everyone wants to feel safe and I don’t blame anyone wanting as much protection as possible but the key phrase is “Guidelines” maybe sometimes a few members of staff feel the guidelines are not good enough.

We have our dog groomed (or did before this), the groomer updated her face book page just today. DEFRA have said dog groomers can work but they need to collect the dog from its home. The dog has to be sprayed with dog friendly disinfectant and the groomer must wear a surgical grade mask and FULL face visor as well as an apron, it must be changed between each dog. To me that is ludicrous, it just puts another group of people in the system trying to purchase ppe.

Just an example of a failure in the system as to who needs what

Think there has been shortages, and distribution problems, seen a Doctor who died was only given a pair of gloves and caught the virus, but off someone not yet diagnosed with it, but all should have access. Seen Wales had 8 million pieces delivered the other day, so there should be enough but distribution seems to be slow.

I feel this is the confusion for some.. Guideline says no eye protection required for risk assessment, this is the updated version this week, I think prior there was no need. Personally I’d say there was always a need and who’d blame anyone for snapping up the face visors. I think it lead to shortage in vital areas but not because there were none in the country, like you say, just getting them to the right places

Still no answer to my simple question. Have you no one capable of making the stuff in a population of 60m. Forget whether you think there’s a shortage or not. None of us work in the health system so can only read reports from those that do. Sewing machines all that are needed ffs

I think that is the updated/upgrade one, previously there wasn’t a need hence the image is missing eye protection

To be honest it would seem to have been common sense. If I was a healthcare worker I’d never have been happy with one oIf those paper things across my mouth as a defense against this thing

Very nicely, thank you, Eire, or so we're told. Some 3000 plus confirmed cases and, at last count, 51 deaths, but who really knows? We have a big advange over some other countries in that we are BIG and no so close to each other. Being a pom is a plus as no-one comes near me even though I do shower regularly, probably same as Eric <laugh> .

Great to hear. I’d say your strict immigration rules are a help too

    Brissy is about right

We have had about 6300 cases and about 3200 have either died, 56, or recovered 3265 so about 3000 active case and the average infection rate does seem to be falling, below 100 a day now

It's more the travel rules that have helped I think. Since 1st Feb we closed down travel by people from China or those who had been to Wuhan, then we stopped travel from Italy, then more generally to anybody not a resident or citizen then everybody that wanted to come here was put into 14 days quarantine and now between states there are similar 14 day quarantine restrictions.

Knowing what we know now we should have shut down travel from the states and closed the ports to cruise ships earlier.
