After reading an article on the BBC it got me thinking what my stance was on this..... am I club or country? I initially thought I was without doubt club, however when I dug a bit deeper...... I must admit I prefer watching champions league football and the quality on show than any England match which truly frustrates me. Do I take more of a day to day interest in Hull City than the England side yes! But I think that if hypothetically they did away with England internationals and the world cup I would be truly distraught as I believe that it is still the pinnacle of our sport. Deep down I think I would be happier if England won the world cup than if Hull City got promoted again it would be truly a national achievement, imagine the fever that would hit the country, it would be unbelievable. I get goose bumps even thinking about the prospect. Yes nothing annoys me more than people like Rooney, Gerrard, Johnson even Carroll on debut not singing the national anthem and then putting in half arsed performances in contrast to club level, however we all grow up dreaming of nothing more than playing for our country it is the pinnacle of any career. So where do the rest of the tiger nation stand on Club VS Country
I go to all England home games, I also followed the team to Japan, Portugal and Germany, but I didn't bother with South Africa. The players aren't interested enough at the moment, maybe if they start to take England games more seriously, I will too, but until then it's club for me.
Too many ego's and ridiculous tabloid media coverage with england at the min, I really do not get excited at the prospect of watching our national team. However, this is probs because I watch City in the flesh and soak up the match day atmosphere whereas watching England on the sofa doesn't really have the same vibe!
Club for me. Games are more frequent and there's the local pride. Agree with the fact that if England won the world cup the nation would go crazy but it's a big if at the moment. Plus i'd soon forget about it when the opening day of the new season started.
Club. England are ****, such a let down. Won't be excited about England until the next wave of new hungry players arrives. And even then we'll probably still be ****.
Club all the way england are crap and they dont play as a team so until we get decent young players in for england who care about the country then i am content watching city
Very similar experience. I've followed England and attended all home games, plus went out to South Africa. However, after forking out goodness knows how much cash over the years to watch a bunch of overpaid over-rated egotistical ****ers strutt about not giving a **** I haven't been to a game since SA and don't intend to until the whole squad changes considerably. I'm sick of players pulling out of international friendlies and then miraculously being fit again for the club at the weekend. If playing nothing for their countries means nothing to them then I don't see why I should pay my hard-earned cash to watch them not give a ****. I've always been a die-hard tigers fan but 15 years ago i'd have answered this question with 'country'. Now it's no contest, 'club' all the way.
agree with above mentioned comments..until the england players start giving a monkeys, and get over these mystery injuries they get on a monday, but are fit again the following friday...it will be club for me.
Does the anthem thing really bother you? Without wanting to be overtly political I'd have a problem being expected to sing a song asking a fictional being to look after a foreigner who's placed above us when all that's 'earnt' them that position is an accident of birth. Club, I've known England games take place without me even realising in the past.
As a supporter - Club As a player - The club pays your wages but if you have a chance to play for your national team be it England or LITHUANIA.. whether they're **** or not you should take it.. what an honour.. I'd have paid my own ticket to SA if everyone was sick and injured and they needed a defender..
Cant you "be" both? I follow all games with both Sweden and Hull, its not like they play the same day I follow Hull more, but its impossible to not keep up whats happening with the national team players around Europe. I like them both equally And yes, I am using to many smileys
At this present time Club, untill some players show a real desire to win and play for pride, some of the national team performances in the past look like training warm up. I feel the modern International player is sometimes under pressure from their respected managers to keep themselves safe, and not to run the tank empty.
Club everytime. I love watching all football: World Cups, Euros, Non-League, Latin American leagues and even Chinese third division stuff if there's nothing else on but i never feel that special kinship you get with your local club....that's when i become a 'fan' (even when the footie's rubbish). Watching England is the same as watching Portugal, except that they're not as good usually. I'd love international football to be completely amateur, if World Cups were contested by a pub team chosen randomly to represent their nation it would be much more fun. Or if you could do a lottery-type thing where, say, 20 players were chosen from different regions and the Premiership-winning manager had to coach them. Don't shoot me down though because i haven't really thought this through.....on the other hand, if you are Sepp Blatter and you think it is a good idea you can buy it off me for 20 million.
:Thats a bit harsh DJ, the homeless lads and druggies might have done a bit better than who we did send down there!
What sort of arsehole comment is that ? Let's not start talking like the Mancs with all this," I don't follow England ****e". I've said it before and I'll say it again; I'm City and I'm Engalnd.I'm England and I'm City. It really isn't that difficult to support both teams. You don't have to chose one or the other, you can be both. Whilst we're at it; peas or beans ?
