Yes . Mrs J is loving retirement , she’s 5 years older than me turned 60 in July , BT offered her 18 months money to go so a no brainier . Anyway , before the virus she was happy pottering around , meeting friends for coffee or whatever . I would last about 2 weeks before I would be going mad . I HAVE to have something to do . A few at work on 3+day week . All do mon - wed or Wed - FRI .

I Would want mon , tue , thu . Or Tue thu fri .

but that’s all in the future !

 

Yes . We are fortunate . No mortgage and no children .

Don’t have the patience .

Bought a new PS4. Months ago . Keep getting annoyed at even trying to set it up . Mrs J says NO , I wanted it , I have to set it up .

I’ve always been good at table tennis. All of us are. It’s a bit of a weird family thing. My defensive game is bizarrely good.

The table has been in the lounge since lockdown started.

I’m **** at air hockey.

 

Exactly mate, nail on the head. I'm not retired, but I could survive on half the money I used to be on, and probably less. Like you, mortgage all done, children all grown up and flown the nest. No more of the, back in the day, 6 o'clock in the mornings on the M25, and coming back home in the late rush hour. Was I glad when I binned that off for something more local, but when you're young you have the stamina. Anyone mentions the M25 to me now, I just shudder

 

At the risk of sounding like a bit of a ****, I don’t need the money is the honest answer mate. I’m 50 and financially secure, plus the better half is a fair bit younger and nowhere near ready to pack in yet, as she’s still got her own ambitions to fulfil, for her own self worth.

If I jib it all off, I think I’d like to do some work with start ups and small businesses, mentoring, problem solving, and that kind of shizzle. Paid or charitable.

But funny thing is when I was doing 60 hrs a week I didn't have time to do everything but now I dont have time to do anything, too busy chilling

 

you don’t sound like anything , except someone who is comfy in life . Only a sad bitter person would begrudge anyone that !

 

You see . I have worked for BT for nearly 37 years , only ever did more than about a 36 hour week when I wanted to do overtime .

Looking back , they have been a bloody good employer .

 

Work is only good if you enjoy what you are doing and your employer appreciates what you are doing

 

Before retirement 10 out of !0 on the fiery Redhead Richter scale now about 7.5

 

Funnily enough . I have never been happier in my environment or happier with the people in our team , just got to a point where I want to spend less time doing it .

 

So 5 is about the bar for normal right ?
