You need to sit down and seriously work out all your bills at least until July, if you have not already done so, and do so without counting in any future benefit for now, just see what reality really looks like, it will save you a lot of pain later mate.

You’re probably right mate, most will likely just get back on the hamster wheel.

Some change might actually be driven by the corporates though, as if the majority of your workforce can amply largely work remotely, then there’s money to be saved.......

    Cash flow forecasts <wah>

I’ve done more of those than I can count in the last month or so, business ones like, but the principle is exactly the same.

    This <applause>

We've never seen an event like this before, and nobody has. It's literally shaken the whole globe out of it's collective habits and forced us all to reflect and re-evaluate. And as you say, the focus is on the basic tenants of simple life. As you probably know, I'm a glass half full type of bloke :) so I see massive potential in it all to reshape behaviours and bring about meaningful change.

Folk are literally being forced to re-assess what is important, what isn't and how they will adapt. The whole 'going back to normal', which was part of the problem anyway is being quickly dismantled by HUGE swathes of people across continents.

    This is a game changer.

One thing is for sure, it’s going to put right wing populism right back in its box.

I’ll have my house on that one.

Boris owes his life to the NHS.

There's never going to be any tolerance for underfunding it ever again.

Fate was on my side in all this, I'm one of the lucky ones that will escape unscathed. Reason being, I did all my cashflow 12 months back, long before this virus was even heard about. You might remember part the reason I went to Italy, was to spend a few weeks out there to give me time to make a few life decisions. Anyway, long story, time moved on and I'm still in the UK. My health is more important to me now, and riding out this storm without having to go into hospital, is a bigger challenge than a monetary one.

    **** spreadsheets.

I saw enough of those in the NHS, so my trusty pencil is the antidote to that particular trauma. <laugh>

Before this virus hit Mrs J retired and we hoped in a year or two I could go down to. 3 day week . Since I have been wfh , realised financially it will be easy . Mentioned it to my boss and he said it has to wait until we are all back to normal which is fair enough .

My point is I agree with Tobes , had the virus not have happened I would not even have considered it for at least a year .

Life’s too short mate, if you can afford to do it, then do it.

I’ve been thinking about retiring from my main career for a couple of years or so tbh, the only reason I haven’t is that I hadn’t convinced myself I’d have a true sense of purpose if I did. I’m a bloke who needs a focus and I enjoy what I do for the most part. I’ve maybe re-evaluated that position in the last few weeks tbh.

Since I retired my income is a third of what I was earning in a 60 hr week but in reality I don't need anymore
My wife took early retirement from DSS/Job Seekers Allowance so she is a slightly mellowed fiery redhead
Mortgage is paid and children are independent
But the virus has been a big hit to people paying off a mortgage and with children at home
