Coming back to China and their stats. Out a population of 11 million it is claimed there were 40,000 deaths since December but less than 4,000 deaths in the whole of China from Coronavirus. This could be very similar to the way the UK government reports our figures.

In the week ending there were 11,141 registered deaths but only 496 of these were recorded as having coronavirus.

I don't know what to believe anymore and I reckon there are many people feeing the same way. There are too many conflicting facts and opinions. We should just follow our gut feeling and try our hardest to follow guidelines. It's all there is for now.

In China, the state controls everything, including the news, don’t trust a word of it.

Don’t forget, when Dr Li Wenliang tried to warn others about this virus, he was arrested for ‘spreading false rumours’.

I started following Bette Midler on Twitter having seen some of her tweets about Trump. Clearly US politics is extremely partisan to a point that is beyond parody. She seems more presidential than POTUS.

It’s also worth a mention that any coronavirus linked death is being reported as a coronavirus death.

With flu and similar things quite often the virus is never mentioned in the death certificate. If someone had a serious underlying condition and the flu was the foot that eventually kicked over the bucket, the underlying condition would usually be reported as the cause of death.

Flu or cold are not notifiable diseases so they do not legally need to be mentioned. Covid-19 however is.

If the Chinese government didn't test people who died at home they'd have no idea if they had coronavirus or not. Just the same as us.

The nature of the Chinese government is irrelevant. What is important is the criteria they used when collating the statistics. If the unofficial estimates of 40,000 deaths is accurate then there doesn't appear to be much difference statistically between the figures our government produce and those produced by the Chinese government.

The nature of the Chinese government is obviously relevant if it makes it likely that the figures they release are completely made up.

I think they are just outright false.

The Red Cross hospital in Wuhan had over 2000 admissions per day at the peak of the outbreak. Patients were lying on the floor in corridors, anywhere they could find a space to slump to the floor. Doctors were called in from all over China to help their swelled hospitals cope.

I seriously doubt that the Chinese have reported the true figures. How many elderly have passed away due to 'other ailments'. You don't build a hospital in a few days for a small number of deaths out of a population of, what, 1.6 billion.

Why would they make the figures up if they know the figures they have are a massive underestimate because of the method of collecting the data?

China tested just over 80,000 people. The figures could well be accurate. How useful they are is another matter.

Agreed, a person interviewed from that managed the crematoriums in Wuhan said the death tolls reported did in no way tally up with the time all crematoriums in Wuhan were at absolute capacity dealing with the cremations of the people that died from Coronavirus. The belief was that the released figures were only approximately 10% of the actual figures.

The Chinese make up figures to present them in a better light, they do it every year with their GDP figures and they're doing it now.
