    Two L's would be for something like quelle surprise.

    Quel is the masculine form, quelle is the feminine form.

    So, a surprise is feminine and a disappointment is masculine, who decided that then?
    It used to irk my french teacher, Miss D'arge, no end that, there could be a group of a 1000 women and just one man with them and they would still be classed as Ils not Elles!
