Basically it's about the wording. Last week we were told that testing was going to start, on Saturday for all frontline NHS staff. Most people would think, great problem averted. However the reality is, only a tiny minority were actually tested and it still is only a tiny minority. They haven't actually lied, they did start testing, but it's a false promise, to make it sound like all the staff would be tested, a false promise, one which they've applied to many promises and sadly, most people get taken in by it. The 40 new hospitals is a prime example, which is why I used it, they aren't building 40 new hospitals, they're doing a bit of work on existing ones.
Amazing how they can make a 4000 bed hospital in 2 weeks though? lets hope after all this they will make sure that the NHS is looked after properly.... which I think will happen.
Matt Hancock got tested though and for that we should all be thankful. Shouldn’t Boris be available from today too though? His definitely real CV diagnosis that wasn’t just a ploy to take him out the firing line was on the same day as Hancock’s.
spent some time checking up on friends I haven't spoken to in a while. One mate still going into London - I said I did not envy him and hoped he could get a chance to work from home. A couple of other friends are working from home and a friend in Surrey was telling me today that they had been sent photos of eateries allowing people inside- so much for social distancing and one place selling a single banana for 80pence. I am looking after two bored out of their minds active (or they were) parents whilst I work at home - soon to be furloughed. They do go out for a walk but sure they would much rather walk round M and S which they can't. I have suggested they walk in the garden....and then all of a sudden I get a list of jobs to do Pretty sure that the football players will ask for salary reduction to be in line with the rest of the country. After all, imagine the abuse they would get if they followed their union and said no we wont sacrifice salary. I watched Contagion (on DVD) last night. Good story however the moral is that human destruction of the planet caused the crisis. Also, how the virus started was interesting......and the lack of hygiene. When I worked in the care sector I was always telling staff to wipe things (windows, door handles etc), keep the kids clean and that will prevent anything from spreading. Didn't always work with the annual coughs and colds that went round. Hope you are all staying safe- Stainsey - we are grateful for what you and the other medics do. . Stay safe everyone
Is it me or has Hancock just given a raft of excuses before laying out another slate of promises in the hope that we won’t remember? ‘In the final stages of development..........’ seems to be the catchphrase of the day. Pillars! Five pillars! Keunssberg.....blah; Peston.....1 minute question of misery, I’m amazed that after his humiliation last night he has the balls to drone on again tonight. Hancock ‘we have one of the best understandings of the supply chain in the world’. What? We may understand it but the examples of tests, PPE, ventilators etc demonstrate pretty clearly that our brilliant understanding does not equate to anything useful in terms of managing the supply chain. Dipstick. In other, more personally heartwarming news, my son’s employer, who also owns and lives in the house the lad shares, has cut the rent to £20 a week and is keeping them all stocked with booze for the duration. The boy seems to be house cook and is painting the front room today. Given that it is a household of builders I wouldn’t be surprised if they doubled the size of the place over the next few weeks, out of sheer boredom. Of course it will look like one of those nightmare Gaudi buildings because they’ll all be pissed as they do it.
I think you’ll find that a 4000 bed one gone up in London in 10 days and 3 more in construction in Manchester, Glasgow and Birmingham, but hey ho why let the corona virus stop all normal government actions and work just so you have something to bitch about, and if you actually look carefully I think you’ll find their all just a little bit f*cking busy at the moment to be bothered keeping you happy. That answer ya stupid question !!!
To be reluctantly fair to them, they were under huge pressure to communicate more from the top. Unfortunately they have chosen now to over communicate, there isn’t enough to announce on a daily basis and it’s now repetitive and the impact is zero. Plus of course even a week ago we were in the ‘****ing great decisions are being made’ zone, now we are already in the ‘is that it, why isn’t everything better yet?’ mode. The daft over promising on things they didn’t understand and couldn’t control has turned these sessions from a ‘were all in it together, let’s knuckle down’ affair to a dodge the blame fest. They are burning my goodwill, which I gave willingly couple of weeks ago, rapidly.
