The short answer is if Ashley left and the new owners were the right sort of people, lots of money and investment offered he would go. As others have said with Quinn on our side we would be fine and we would end up with a good replacement.

you keep banging on about there being no loyalty in football, but you are contradicting yourself by saying bruce would be loyal to his roots by turning his back on us if the situation was better at st james. maybe he would, but it would take a lot of things, all of them unlikely, for newcastle to become a better managerial prospect than staying with us, so what's the problem?? he's clearly not going to defect to newcastle, and as i said (pay attention), even if the circumstances were such that he might fancy the move, would the mags welcome him with open arms?? look how happy they were to have allardyce. it would be career suicide for bruce to go there, he would never be able to succeed.

lostinvegas - i disagree that he'd go to newcastle, but if/when the day comes that he moves onwards and upwards to a better job, with quinn we have a guarantee that we will get an exceptional replacement.

I agree with your comments except the one about the mags accepting Bruce, TBH they would accept anyone, they are so fickle as we all know, they hate him now but if he became manager they would love him. Just the same as they now hate Ashley but if he were to spend some money in the summer he will be the new mesiah.

Having said all that, it tells you a great deal about the club when their one hero, the mighty Sheerah won't touch the job with a barge poll.

Interesting thread this. I don't really agree that shearer didn't want the job, on the contrary, Shearer wanted the job even when we were relegated but fat Mike ignored him and appointed from within (Chris Houghton).. On Steve Bruce, There is a hatred towards him at the minute but as with any club ( not just ours) fans are fickle. Myself personally wouldn't want him and I know many other fans feel the same but as you say if it did happen the 'fans' would support him eventually. I think he will stay to be honest as he seems to have a similar hatred towards us at the minute.
