I was speaking to friend of mine who works in "disputes and resolutions" and has been redeployed to the DWP along with ppl from HMRC to deal with the mass applications for Universal Credit.
600,000 in 9 days.
Earlier today there were 66,000 waiting to apply.
Every application is pretty much taken at face value which means no push for evidence such as payslips etc, but to cover their arse they make ppl aware that it is their responsibility to be accurate and provide the evidence, but DWP is proceeding with claims. She's fairly confident that if the situation improves with this virus, in about 6 months thousands will be investigated.
well HMRC are part of UC but tbh the no push for evidence and we will check later has been standard policy ever since JobcentrePlus came into existence .
Fulham aint souf, just the postcode.Bitch!......Sarf London don't snitch boy![]()
Personally I think it was mistake of the government to throw everyone straight into that bucket, but it was probably the only system, employees and IT, that was anywhere near capable of dealing with the immediate crisis.
That same government will also have to accept that some people will not know the complicated rules of Universal Credit, which could see claimants falling foul of the rules. The two areas I see this happening is savings and income, the latter will be picked up by HMRC and reported directly to DWP. The evidence of the former will have to come at a later date, I'm not sure what legal rights the department have to check with your bank.
However, just to get 600,000 claims done in nine days, even minus the evidence is nothing short of a bloody miracle.

UC is part of DWP.
If they are on PAYE then the VEP interface will pick it up and flag the case for investigation if there is a discrepancy.
Everything is moving seriously fast. This man knows the system, which is exactly what I was getting at![]()
Ive already paid mine for the year, can you sort me a refund for the £150?Everything is moving seriously fast.
Tomorrow we have a conference call with local authorities to agree the software for delivering the extra £150 off council tax bills.
They'd better agree to our ideas as we have almost finished writing it.
Dropped some tins of food round to the old man today, hes in a **** place at the moment, feel for him, had a chat and that, been calling him every day but hes lonley innit being on his own now after his divorce recently.
What can ya do though only time and distractions get you over that kinda thing i suppose. Drinking a lot tho, bit worrying tbh.

Have you read any NHS stats that show how many Greggs Sausage and Bean Melts you should limit yourself to per sitting?

Not HIAG though - even God thinks he is a ****!
DWP might be the main provider of UC however it is a joint enterprise between a number of Govt Depts and LA's plus the interfaces can pick up all sorts but you actually need staff to actually notice it and then action itUC is part of DWP.
