I'm a former user with a history of mental illness, but I found a cure and low and behold it was not taking drugs. I don't think anything is bad in moderation, but sucky grasses me up on a regular basis, so I really hope he doesn't try acting like hes the victim

Personally I think it was mistake of the government to throw everyone straight into that bucket, but it was probably the only system, employees and IT, that was anywhere near capable of dealing with the immediate crisis.

That same government will also have to accept that some people will not know the complicated rules of Universal Credit, which could see claimants falling foul of the rules. The two areas I see this happening is savings and income, the latter will be picked up by HMRC and reported directly to DWP. The evidence of the former will have to come at a later date, I'm not sure what legal rights the department have to check with your bank.

However, just to get 600,000 claims done in nine days, even minus the evidence is nothing short of a bloody miracle.

I think it's the case that no checks are being made which otherwise would be. It's being dealt with at duch a pace. The staff from HMRC being redeployed aren't normally working on applications. Likewise although she wirks in a different department (more the legal side) she herself is now doing work 2 paygrades below her level.

    UC is part of DWP.

If they are on PAYE then the VEP interface will pick it up and flag the case for investigation if there is a discrepancy.

    Everything is moving seriously fast.

Tomorrow we have a conference call with local authorities to agree the software for delivering the extra £150 off council tax bills.

They'd better agree to our ideas as we have almost finished writing it.

Sorry to hear that mate. Loneliness is the worst thing at the best of times but during this coronavirus lockdown it must be even worse. Hope he's able to do something about it no matter how small, it often comes down to the person though.

DWP might be the main provider of UC however it is a joint enterprise between a number of Govt Depts and LA's plus the interfaces can pick up all sorts but you actually need staff to actually notice it and then action it <whistle>

I hit the first of what I suspect will be many walls today. Bored and feeling a bit trapped. Needs must but this isn’t fun. Fortunately the kids are coping quite well with it. My mate called me today and said his son is creating a toxic environment in the house. To add to that, his missus is a doctor working in a specially created ICU so he’s worried about her.
