That’s a similar number 3 days in a row for Spain. Maybe starting to level off?

Isn’t it the greatest irony that the most intelligent people have the least common sense?

If that's total cases, it's not as bad as presented, given they've over 5 times the population of Spain.

The tweet that came with that graph...

    Ian Young @ianjamesyoung70
The US is on a nightmare #covid19 path. Today’s @FT tracker. For Canadian context, at the same point in our respective outbreaks, 17 days after hitting 100 infections, Canada had about 5,000 cases, but US had abt 40,000 (no, popn difference doesn’t matter).

People in this country will swap jobs from office work into supermarkets, but how many will go and work in the fields? We will need to do something and no one seems to come up with a good way to do this.

There must be thousands of fit and healthy people who could work and even getting the virus will not put them in hospital.

He's a journalist, and the epidemiologists replying are pointing out a few misconceptions.

    numbers can blow your mind
an average of 1,500 people die a week in the uk through smoking and many more from related illnesses.

i think after all this is over we should all self isolate from tobacco.
try and turn over a new leaf.

I saw a bloke on tv explaining the swab test. Checking just at the edge of the nose, he described as looking in one room in a building and using that to see how full the whole building was. He said the swab had to be taken right at the back of the nasal passage, and that this is an uncomfortable experience.

He wasn't joking was he.

This is genuinely what it looks like.

It is a problem, mechanic who did some work for me recently said that quite a few of the farmers he know were worried if they became ill who would run their farms and livestock, normally help each other out, young ones don't want to know, reliance on overseas workers to help out...

Except fit and healthy apparently doesn’t mean invincible.

Best guesses seem to be a 20% average on needing hospital treatment. At some point last week Italy claimed 60% of their intensive care patients were under 60.

Kids aren't at school, so they could muck in like used to happen not that long ago. A bit of exercise, fresh air and seeing where food comes from would do them good.
