It's no good trying to curry favour, just because you've got a chip on your shoulder.

I won't skate around the problem, but you always need a cuppa char with the meal. How the hell do you get a chip to perch on your shoulder ?

If it's on his shoulder, it's more liable to be a parrot fish than a perch.

Not sure if you are joking, but I had thought the same. Other clubs certainly have. Its proximity to HRI, large function rooms, concourse (?), parking/storage facilities etc surely lends itself to playing a role, whether it's extra hospital space, hotel space for nhs staff, etc.

Not sure if this desease can be spread through urine but saw one of Willy Booths finest pissing all over the pavement in full view of the A63 yesterday. He looked absolutely hammered.

    Half three in the afternoon.

What do you do with these people?

Seriously , where does society stand on those who not only ignore the measures put in place but appear to blatantly up the ante?

The back of the Kempton around half three wasn’t exactly the right place to grow tomatoes mind...

Round them up and put them down. A total waste of fresh air and a drain on society.

I don't want to start a scrap over this. I'd probably get battered.

I’ve not seen much about it, but wondered what is happening with those at the bottom of our society, given the diversion of social and health services to supporting those vulnerable to covid-19.

People dependent on drugs and alcohol who rely on petty crime and shoplifting to fund their habit must be stuffed at the moment. I did suspect the lifting of restrictions on off-licenses was driven by the need to avoid thousands of alcoholics in withdrawal and with DTs - it’s nasty, worse than coming off heroin, and kills.

Many of you may think - well so what? Well, from a cold finance perspective we don’t want essential NHS resources being used up at this time dealing with substance abusers and dependents in medical crisis. And from an ethical point of view - these are human beings and in my view you judge a society on how it treats the people on the margins. The vast majority have some kind of untreated mental health issue, they’ve fallen through the gaping holes in the welfare safety net and they are self-medicating with whatever comes to hand.

it’s not noble, it’s not glamorous so we won’t be hearing about it any time soon, but the staff at William Booths are doing as vital a job for society as anyone at the moment, with a lot less cooperative population. Hats off to them.

I would say that I am sorry to disagree, but I’m not sorry in this case.
I do not have any compassion for the homeless, it isn’t something I can pretend to have, I never give a penny to beggars and never buy the big issue. It just isn’t something that I do.
But, comments saying that any element of our society should be put down have to be challenged.
If you don’t want to see homeless people and drug addicts the manual to get them off the streets isn’t Mien Kampf.

    Well said.
Drug & alcohol abuse can effect anyone and create a downward spiral into equally damaging ancilliary problems - both physical & mental side effects. As you say, we should not ignore those who are in such vulnerable positions while we try to combat the current affliction. After all, it could easily be one of your own family members who happen to end up in such a plight.
This is a hell of a complex problem we are all, globally, facing.

Friend of mine who is a nurse at a children's hospice, posted this today...

Years ago, anthropologist Margaret Mead was asked by a student what she considered to be the first sign of civilization in a culture. The student expected Mead to talk about fishhooks or clay pots or grinding stones.

But no. Mead said that the first sign of civilization in an ancient culture was a femur (thighbone) that had been broken and then healed. Mead explained that in the animal kingdom, if you break your leg, you die. You cannot run from danger, get to the river for a drink or hunt for food. You are meat for prowling beasts. No animal survives a broken leg long enough for the bone to heal.

A broken femur that has healed is evidence that someone has taken time to stay with the one who fell, has bound up the wound, has carried the person to safety and has tended the person through recovery. Helping someone else through difficulty is where civilization starts, Mead said."

We are at our best when we serve others. Be civilized.

    - Ira Byock.

facts - from the only mass tested sample of quarantined people - 712 to be precise (albeit older than average)

as many as 14% of people with the virus can show no symptoms (ive known all along ive had it)
some can be critically ill for a month
1.4% of those with it die
    80% made a total recovery

    sheffield leeds got it bad
we in hull are quiet - so far
i was wondering how long before leeds/sheffield patients get shipped to hull.
and then when full if hull patients are needed to be treated do we pull the plug on the out of towners to make way for our own?
    dont think so

so staying "lucky" for another month and catching the virus when the nhs is unable to cope might just be the last bit of luck you ever have.

So true. Thank goodness the majority of human beings, if given the chance & not oppressed, think & act that way.

Assuming you’re referring to the video of a Chinese woman eating bat soup in a restaurant, it’s not in Hong Kong, you could no more get bat soup in a restaurant in Hong Kong, than you could in a restaurant in Hull.
