I love they way rank self-interest is dressed up as sincere concern for the health of the nation. We need a heart- rending story of a granny dying on her own here. Truth is, if that is your main priority youd have no qualms calling it off where the positions are, giving all teams one point for any unplayed games. Both terminating scenarios are legal minefields.

Just wish everyone ( yep, me included) would lay off the ****ing humbug. If it needs to be cancelled ( a decision not need till the end of may) null and void is no more fairer than any other solution, even if it satisfies the wishes ( completely altruistic, of course) of the majority of the Prems fanbase.

If that is where we're going, let's just do away with any competition at all and settle things with a phone-in vote to Chris Sutton on 5 live.

Season could be lost, says Uefa boss Aleksander Ceferin

Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin says the current football season could be lost if it cannot be restarted by the end of June.

Not really. Even when the lockdown is lifted (which I doubt will be until May at the earliest) then social distancing will remain. Quite how long it’ll be until it’s deemed safe for a stadium to be filled with 60k people and for 22 blokes to be playing football with the close physical contact that brings, is anyone’s guess. However, the idea the season could be completed (even behind closed doors) by the end of June, is already dead imo.

Timings are going to be tight is not unfeasable.

There's no hope of things being done in April, it's hard to imagine that in May things will be much better (it's meant to peak in 2-4 weeks so in a month and a bit we may, at best, be back down to the levels we are at now). With the back-logs of cases following this all I really can't see schools or public areas being open until June at the earliest and that may well be optimistic. Could they start playing football again in June? Possibly. Will they have enough time to get through the 100 games they need to even by the end of July? I can't see it at all. Unless the FA say they don't mind putting teams against each other whilst the country is still off work for social distancing reasons (which the players would refuse) then I don't see this season being played out in June.

Realistically, even if they do void this season there's a decent chance we can't even start the next one in August.

The big problem will be agreeing things at a UEFA level if different leagues are ready to go at different times.

It’s not beyond the wit of man to finish this season off whenever feasible - August & September for example- then play a truncated season from October-May. Politics will get in the way though.

Perhaps a better solution is to start next season with the extra games as the pre-season games rather than the meaningless mini tournaments and tours

failing that just scrap this season and start again next year

Finishing the current season has to be the number one priority. It's nuts to move onto another one until it has been sorted out but it may be seen as easier to just write it off and move on with everyone agreeing that " it's no-ones fault".

Hopefully they can be playing again in June and get it all done. My guess would be that they aren't though and the season is trashed.

Lots of things they could consider doing to facilitate a one off shorter time framed 20/21 season - no replays in domestic cup competitions ... Greedy baasstard UEFA scrap league formats in European trophies for one season - two legged knockout (used to be the norm) and no drop down from one competition to another as a money spinning succour to failure <ok>

The first suggestion would be adding another couple of months of competitive football onto a season that is already ending with the euros. Add in the Qatar 2022 the following season and the players would be looking at an insane 36 months of playing.

Finishing the current season remains the priority UNTIL it becomes impossible to do so without significantly affecting the next one. Given the complications that comes with extending the current season beyond the end of June i.e. the contract issues (both players and sponsors) and the opening of the transfer window, personally I don’t see how it can practically be done.

All joking aside, I would like to see the season finished. It would be a triumph over adversity.

The only reason I crack on about the season being binned is because it winds up the internet stream Liverpool fans like astro and topknot who have been streaming football for years in the hope that they can watch a bus parade on the net.

Can't see it happening though. The next two weeks are going to be frightening with the numbers of deaths announced. I think we're looking at an extended period in lockdown and a long recovery.

I think most fans of football want to see the league finished and, realistically, Liverpool be crowned champions despite how OTT their fans always are. It's just that I give it a week at most before more Liverpool biased media comments come out about how they're the "peoples champions" and the club want to "do it for the country" to help overcome these difficult times because they are "more than a club" etc.

I'm neutral and just want the fair outcome. Ex-Liverpool players and commentators do make it difficult to remain neutral though, they are so insanely biased and i wonder if Liverpool fans can actually see it? Honestly, no other club is anywhere near as bad no even the likes of Man Utd.

There's a reason why they're so unpopular with neutral fans despite not winning the league for 30 years. I think it's fair to say that most neutrals wanted moneybags City to win the league last season as they didn't want Liverpool to end their title drought.

I used to dislike Chelsea as prior to Abramovic we (Newcastle) had been finishing 2nd and 3rd but then we were suddenly shunted down out of the Champions League due to their rise however every Chelsea fan i met was fairly understanding about the fact they were just lucky really that they were the club bought out. Hard to dislike that really.

I've worked in Liverpool for 13 years now. I'm honestly yet to meet a single Liverpool fan who doesn't think their club is special and deserves to win everything all the time, this is often coupled with an ignorance regarding other teams (not unusual in many fans in fairness). I'm hoping I can raise my boys to be the exception to this. I can't fault their choice of team (they were born in Liverpool too) as I wouldn't inflict supporting Newcastle on anyone but I am concerned that at some point in their personal development they will be abducted and brainwashed into this unshakeable "more than a club" delusion.

Having said all of that, never have a club actually genuinely deserved to win a league more than Liverpool do this season. It would clearly be grossly unfair if they do not get the chance. Oh and a bit funny.
