I've just started God's Hand on America, by Michael Medved, the sequel to The American Miracle. I doubt either of these two books are widely read outside the New World. But I just finished The Great War and Modern Memory by Paul Fussell. I suspect a lot of Brits have read that one

I don't read much fiction but this looks right up my alley. I noticed there are two other books in the Stasi series. In your opinion, should they best be read in their release order?

There are three actually, Tex, five in all (Stasi Child, Stasi Wolf, A Darker State (aka Stasi State) and then these two). They are all separate cases so don't have to be read in order, but the 99p deal only lasts till the end of the month.

All novels should be read in order to see how the writer develops over time

I don't normally do a lot of reading, but may get round to some.
So I'm asking that great knowledge base that is Not 606.
Is it possible to download Amazon books into iBooks on my laptop?
Google suggest it's the wrong format, but I'm sure someone on here will know.
it was the offer on your series, Tigermaul which has inspired me to try to set this up.

Not sure about iBooks, but the easiest way is just to download the Kindle app. Works as far as I know on any laptop, iPad, smartphone etc. The only disadvantage over an actual Kindle is it tends to be harder to read in the sunlight because of glare etc. Because the Kindle and other e-readers use a different system/electronic 'ink' (?), it doesn't suffer from glare. But if I forget my Kindle (or leave it on the car roof then it falls off and I run over and crush it, as has happened much to my wife's amusement) I often use the app on my iPad.

Sez a lot about the passing of time that although I have the Kindle App on my phone and tablet, my trusty battered fourth generation Kindle Touch is one of my most treasured possessions.

Bought as reconditioned on an Amazon offer, it cost me five quid as I had some online voucher code that I was otherwise never gonna use that covered the rest.

It sits comfortably in my hand, perfectly balanced like the inner workings of a gyroscope.

    Or summut.

I love it almost as much as I love the silver tablespoon which resides in my cutlery drawer, somehow inherited from me mother - dunno how it got in there - but so resonant of childhood and happier times.

Kinnel, being holed up is getting to me.

Yeah, I've got an older version of my iPad, so new version of kindle is not compatible. Google suggests I should be able to install kindle on another device so when I open it on my iPad, will automatically offer me an older version. Makes perfect sense, but not working!

Ah. Sorry. Not sure how to sort that one. All I'd say is a Kindle paperwhite is not that expensive ... great way of 'carrying' lots of books on holiday, when we're finally allowed to go on holiday again ...

I’ve been reading this. An excellent read for me but I wouldn’t recommend it to others.
