    To clarify a little further...

£2500 per month is the pre tax amount and is the maximum for PAYE emplyees receiving 80% of their salary throught the government job retention scheme.

Does that mean that if someone earns £2501pm, they get bugger all?

The irony of this is not lost on me. It's the most socialist initiative ever introduced in this country, and it was one of the most right wing tory governments that introduced it! I'm surprise it wasn't a simple loan scheme at credit card interest rates, with a jail sentence if you miss a payment. :)

I actually think Boris has handled this very well so far (didn't think I'd be saying that <laugh><laugh>)

I'd have to agree. Reluctantly. :( For once the stupid clown appears to be listening to people that know things. Don't forget his original plan, though. You know, the 'herd' thingy that would have killed loads more of us than the current plan. Where tf did that come from?

I must confess though that I think of my mother every time I see him on the telly. I can just picture her giving it "Get your hair combed before you get on that tv - you're giving me a right showing up!"

It came from the medical experts and scientists advising him, so wasn't his original plan at all.

All of the strategies that Johnson has implemented along the way have been on the advice of the experts.

And yet he's lauded for this plan? At the end of the day, he's the figurehead that rubber stamps the way forward. If implemented, good or bed, it's his plan. And yet the stupid one has been deflected to 'medical experts & scientists'. Oddly enough, the current plan still appears to be attributed to Boris.

Under the scheme HMRC will reimburse up to 80% of the wage costs of a worker who have been ' furloughed ' up to a cap of £2500 per month. A furloughed worker is someone who will not be working but is kept on the payroll rather than being laid off. The Chancellor has stated that employers can top up salaries further if they choose to.

In February I flew from LA to London, London to Johannesburg, Johannesburg to London, London to Los Angeles, completing my trip on February 27.

I walked into London after scanning my passport, no human interaction. In Johannesburg we were met by a masked operator of an infra-red thermometer operator checking our temperatures and were interviewed by a passport control officer. I was not asked any specific questions.

Reentering London, the process was the same as the first time. Checking my luggage to LA in Heathrow I was asked if I had been to China during the preceding two weeks. Returning to LA was very similar to London other than the passport scanner gave me a form which I had to hand to a customs officer, no questions asked.

This was just 3 weeks ago!! The so called advanced countries were behind the less advanced one!!!
