Let's Call The Whole Thing Off?

The starting date of the Premier League's 2020/21 season has been confirmed.

The 29th campaign of the competition will take place on the weekend starting Saturday 8 August 2020.

It doesn't say anywhere in that article that next season won't start on time, as scheduled. I'm just dealing with the facts here mate.

Yep. Doesn't say that next season will be postponed. I think you're reading it wrong. The 20/21 season isn't mentioned in that article.

 

As a neutral I think they used the word indefinitely just so they didn’t have to be specific about a date at this stage. However I suspect if it becomes clear that they cannot finish the season by the normal starting date of the 20/21 season they will sit down, with the clubs and Sky/BT, reach a financial settlement with the broadcasters, cancel relegations and promotions, reach financial settlements with clubs in lieu of the normal cash distribution and start the new season on schedule.
Everyone will suffer to some extent but at least we can all start afresh next season.

Oh and Newcastle will be awarded the FA Cup having scored the most goals of the teams left in.

 

That would mean Manchester United not having the opportunity to qualify for the CL but such is life.

 

Yeah, or they bypass the entire logisitical and financial nightmare and actually play the handful of remaining games since the schedule of upcoming seasons is already thrown out the window by the Qatar World Cup anyway

 

There will be some clubs that will feel hard done by of course but I am sure they will appreciate the extenuating circumstances and it should motivate them to succeed in 20/21.

 

There are also the little matter of the Euros to fit in in June 2021. Any carry over from this season into next would then impact on that. I think there will be a lot of sympathy for those teams that have missed out but a groundswell of opinion that the world needs to forget about the bad times and get back to normal as quickly as possible.starting the new season on time would be a great start.

 

Agreed, we should put this season behind us and look ahead to the start of the new season in August. It promises to be a celebration of football.

 

You’ve just popped another of his balloons there mate. The Qatar WC - which is over 2 and a half years away, being held up as a reason to save the ‘special’ season, shows just how far down the rabbit hole they’ve gone here.

 

They cant move the Euros back either because of the rescheduling of the Olympic Games. As many of the sponsors will be the same they definitely wont want them overlapping.
