Here's the latest graphs from the BBC website (22nd March) And the graph that AHLL pasted from Twitter - enlarged to make it more readable...
I used to visit there a couple of times a week, but I haven't been to a McDonald's in over a fortnight now. It seems an obvious infection risk to me. I've stopped buying supermarket sandwiches as well, and any other food that somebody else has had to touch to prepare in the recent past. Seems only sensible. It's been Pot Noodles for lunch at work mostly Not very appealing, but relatively safe.
If we can. We're a small manufacturer, with a dozen staff (floor and office combined). Our orders have held up quite well, just got a bit quiet towards the end of last week. Nobody is ill yet, or has any family who are poorly. We can carry on for quite a while if the Government lets us. Among other things we supply soap dispensers (but not the contents). However I doubt if we would be considered a 'key' business. We don't have machinery that could be re-jigged to make important health equipment either, unfortunately. There is talk of new Government measures to be announced on Monday. I don't know if that is just going to be closing parks and tourist attractions in response to the silliness this weekend, or a move to close non-essential workplaces. If they shut us down then we'll have to accept it. I'll miss most of my colleagues though after a while. Like many tiny firms, there is a decent sense of comradeship among the staff. Nearly a second family in some ways.
My local Tesco was not so busy this morning. That was good to see The car park was maybe one quarter full. Before all this began there would be about 8 cars there at 6:15am, but a quarter full car park today was a lot better than last Thursday, when it was rammed at 6:10 and the store had to close its doors before 7am. I only had to queue for a couple of minutes to buy my paper and a few things for lunch break at work. There was rice in big bags and toilet rolls for sale too. I really hope this is a sign that things are calming down. Our essential service workers must be able to buy the things they need.
@Ken Shabby Even allowing for your renowned anti Tory hatred, that really is a f ucking stupid comment, which has annoyed me. Abstained from making decisions ???? I have been working from home for the last week. Let me tell you that senior members of the Government are working 20 hours a day, and life changing decisions are being put to them every hour. Thank God we have got politicians of the calibre of Rishi Sunak, Robert Jenrick & Matt Hancock - all of whom would earn millions in the private sector - at the helm... being guided by experts. Drop your silly anti Tory jealously for a few weeks. FOR F UCKS SAKE.
A package of support for the self employed, including grants & loans, later this week. It’s important to remember with the self employed that it’s their financial EOY, and theoretically the vast majority should now be sitting on a pile of cash ready to pay their annual tax bill.
Sir Patrick Vallance was already earning millions in the private sector when he took a huge pay cut to take up his present position. I'm having a day off twitter because I'm pi55ed orft with idiots having a pop at him. The research work he was doing before was for the benefit of mankind, and he was rewarded on merit. Some of the garbage people are saying is beyond belief.
Twitter is terrible. Those f ucking cyclists congregating in Richmond Park yesterday. I feel like punching them.
