In this infinite time of no football and scrolling through NewsNow Newcastle United the thought occurred who struck the football harder.

In the red corner we have the enigmatic Bob

And in the blue corner the Geordie who lived the dream

For me it’s Bob. Shearer could strike the ball but Bob he was the Peter Lorimer of his time. He was a poor man’s Ginola but still one of my favourite players.

I'd have to go for Shearer. Shearer is the man who helped me discover the word "thundercunt" cos he used to smack the ball so hard. It's like his daddy beat him or the priest touched him, and he expelled all those repressed memories by smashing a football as hard as possible.

We're just lucky he could aim.

Shearer by far. His long distance stuff were all just power. Don’t think he particularly thought about placement.

Robert was a sublime striker of a ball but it was his placement that was exquisite.

At the time, I don't think I had ever seen a football hit harder than Shearer's shot against Man United that hit the post. Fabian Schar may have stolen that title off him now though!

I loved Robert but Shearer is simply the best player to have played for Newcastle in my lifetime by a country mile. He was truly world class in that he was worthy of a spot in any team in the world at that time.

That free kick he hammered past Barthez had incredible power behind it

2 very different players, Shearer was all brute force, whereas Robert was a ridiculous talent that he only showed some of the time.

They could both generate a similar power, ie Shearers free kick vs Man U and volley vs Everton were a similar power to Roberts strikes vs Spurs... however Shearer relied on power more whereas Robert had more tricks in his locker, ie that free kick from miles out by Robert against Southampton that he hit with the side of his foot and swerved all over the place and left the keeper completely baffled. .. Shearer could never have done that.

    People?

Graeme Souness got rid of him cos he clearly hated him, he also got rid of Bellamy. None of us wanted them to leave.

And Luque? No one even knew who he was, nevermind wanted him. Souness even says he didn't want Luque and it was all Sheppard's purchase.

True but i tend to read the non fictional version of history rather than the fictional ones you tend to read.
