I’m in the same boat mate. Self employed electrician. I had plenty of work lined up this time 2 weeks ago, but due to planning departments and this current madness, I now have nothing on the cards. Worked Monday and Tuesday, had one test lined up for weds am, turned up and was refused entry by the tenant. Wandered round local sites yesterday to introduce/virtually beg for work. Sent a price in for a job in Bath today and waiting to send another price for a nice job in Bristol. Took 3 month mortgage holiday yesterday and will look into govt loans/grants for ltd companies. VAT was due, but now delayed, as is next self assessment, but these bills will all have to be paid at some point. Something in the back of my mind has been saying ‘sell the house’ for a couple of years now. Reasonable equity to be had. Can’t help but feel ill not see that equity now. Like you, I’ll be going to work whilst I’m fit and well.
If one can carry the virus, but show no symptoms, and it is spread via coughing or sneezing, how does the symptomless carrier transmit?
They talk of droplets so I'm guessing by just spitting as they talk maybe or them touching their mouth or nose then a surface that someone else then touches. That person would then need to touch their own mouth nose or eyes though. Hence why washing hands is so important.
Exactly this! As a self employed, sole trader I have no choice but to. 95 quid a week will not cover my monthly Bill's, leaving me approx -28 pounds to buy food!

Did have savings a few years ago kiwi but helped my younger bro get on the property ladder. I've got nearly 3 grands worth of materials sat at a job (not paid for yet). I dont know if I can even start it ! As Col says, if I feel well then I shall be going to work. I have a couple of empty houses I can work on. If the govt are serious about me staying at home then I need more than half a days wage to see me through a week! I pay my tax just like any employee whom will be guaranteed %80 of their wage. I appreciate that all wages are relative to their employment/jobs but 95 quid a week doesn't do **** all for me!

I think they have got the message Bob, Col and all others in this Catch 22. I think their problem is the mechanics of supporting the income of the self employed, and hopefully they will sort something soon. Lots of focus on it. Interesting comment by Matthew Parris in the Times today. He notes, and I think several on here have alluded to this, that the political approach to this, globally, is to lock down everyone to protect the vulnerable. The alternative is to lock down the vulnerable and let the rest of us get on with it.............Parris is an old geezer himself. It’s an attractive argument....... Interesting shift in the messaging from both the UK government and the WHO yesterday - telling younger people that they are vulnerable too and could die. As far as I can see there is no new evidence behind this, the younger you are the less likely you are to get a severe version of the disease, and the chances of dying are really minuscule compared to oldies. So why the change in messaging? My guess is that this is a social control measure, because it’s estimated that less than 50% of people are following the guidance, and the next step is to scare them, prior to coercive measures we have never seen in peacetime.
