Yep. Telling people to stay at home when they have zero income coming in needs to be backed up with financial support.

This is exactly the situation I find myself in at the moment.

    Bizarre fact,

Since the UK announced people must wash their hands regularly the death rate has fallen, the weekly totals are the lowest in five years.

Corona virus has saved up to 4,000 lives a week by stopping people catching flu, food poisoning, hepatitis A as well as transmissible parasites like threadworm.

As I understand it, if everybody was to try and take their money out of the banks at the same time, they wouldn't have enough to honour the credit. As so much of our money is tied up in their investments.

I see what you mean. Yeh true enough but the proposals so far they're proposing just don't seem to be filling anyone with confidence. Loans, universal tax credits and mortgage deferments ffs. And as has been mentioned already they keep batting away any questions being asked about the self-employed.

He's flounced off mate. Well truth is he's got his kids off school, but we'll pretend we believe him that it was a flounce.

They need need to apply a universal basic income through the tax system.

Give every taxpayer £200pw while this is going on.

Trying to target will take to long and be to costly to set up and administer

A UBI could be affordable. For instance, handing out £1,000 cash per person per month would cost the government about £66bn a month — a fraction of the nearly £500bn bailout the UK needed to stay afloat during the 2008 financial crisis. It would only be a temporary measure.

Just a general comment against that, since universal credit was created, thousands of people were expected to live on £70 a week or however much it was, I think that could cause a problem with those queueing at the food banks if they start dishing out £200 a week.

    Sounds harsh but tough.

There is a key group that need help fast and those are on zero hours, self employed or made redundant so have no money with almost no notice. If they had to claim universal credit it would overwhelm the system.

Those on universal credit will continue to get help with their rent, council tax and not have the sudden drop of income overnight.

I also realise there are those who will continue to work and get an extra windfall. Some like healthcare workers will deserve it, others won't.

What I am really suggesting is that the government use the quickest way possible to fill the gap for those suddenly with no wage and likely to have financial commitments they cannot meet.

Letter drop update: an old dear at the end of the street has got in touch to say that she doesn't have the internet/email so was grateful we made contact. She's now been added to the street's support contact list. I wonder whether she has any spare bog roll.
