Seriously, if the chain to infect Woody before Christmas was as long as you describe and it was coronavirus we would have been deep into the epidemic ages ago, it’s a pretty easy algorithm. So the likelihood is that it wasn’t coronavirus. But Woody, our resident conspiracy theorist, doesn’t like working on what is likely, only on what is most sinister. We like a little light sparring once in a while. At 10.00am this morning the Marks and Spencer food hall in the middle of Leamington Spa was just about fully stocked, not overly busy and very calm. Limited to 2 packs of everything, which is simple and fair. The big Tesco Metro just up the road had some empty shelves but was pretty well stocked, busier but calm, no frenzy. I hear that the enormous superstores with the acres of tarmac for parking on the edge of town have been cleared out by ****ers. At Sainsbury’s the only beer left was Corona, proving that not only Americans are stupid.
What’s to say this hasn’t been around for some time/ever and was just assumed to be a nasty cold/flu like virus, just like we accept is part of normal life. Flu hits the fittest amongst us hard enough and takes the lives of the more vulnerable. Asking for a friend (I told him he’s nuts)

Anyone else heard this rumour that the government is planning to pay every worker in the country £1,000 each? Sounds too good to be true to me.
That’s the US plan so wouldn’t surprise me. UBI basically, which is a great idea which hopefully will get a fair chance rather than being written off as it always is. Obviously it’s a short term measure but allows people to cover the basics.
Not heard the rumour. They are doing something similar I think in the US, and have done it before. Can’t imagine exactly how it would work. Obviously would be better targeted at those who actually need it, but that might be too bureaucratic and time consuming to work out.

Lovely. Similar stuff happening in Spain. My half Spanish niece is a specialist nurse for Alzheimer’s patients in Madrid, says it really gives her a boost, this outburst of thanks and respect, even if she is not directly working on the virus. Also saw on the news footage from Italy of perfectly stocked supermarkets with people observing a big personal distance zone in them, plus lots of people opening their shutters and leaning out of their windows (looked nice and sunny in Rome). When I lived in Italy it pissed me off that so many people never seemed to open their shutters, would be nice to see them open. Also lots of good stories about community help here, and some impressive moves by some of the retailers. It’s crude propaganda but at times like these I really think we need to big up these stories. And especially show that people who are in a worse position than we are at the moment surviving in a civilised, dignified way (though having lived in Italy I’m not kidding myself that this is always the case there....)

People also stood out on balconies as they belted out the iconic Proclaimers tune in dedication to ‘unsung heroes’ including hospital workers, cleaners, supermarket workers, transport and distribution workers and care workers. It comes after footage of Italians singing Nessun Dorma and Ave Maria to each other from their balconies was shared online as a message of hope and solidarity during the COVID-19 lockdown. Scots joined in by hosting their own spontaneous sing-along in Leith to ‘break the isolation and have a bit of fun’. Residents took to social media to share footage of the 'strong community' and ‘to say a big fat thank you’ to emergency services who are under heavy strain right now. Some singers enjoyed the performance so much they even want to do it ‘once or twice a week’ to support ‘the elderly and vulnerable’. To be fair G, the public response to NHS staff on social media and out on the street has been amazing. Don’t get me wrong, I really can afford a coffee, but the gesture of many companies (Pret, M and S, Greggs to name a few) really has been appreciated and has a real ‘feel good’ factor about it. Adding to that the kind words that I’ve had from the public when in uniform has in some way kept me going when I really reckon I’ve had enough............If I hear I’m an ‘angel’ one more time though, I think I might fly.
Marks and Spencer’s are giving over the first hour of trading to elders on certain days and NHS staff on other days.Nice gesture
