Because for every business that takes the money it is given and carries on through this, there will be another that takes the money it is given and lays everyone off and closes down anyway.

I'm trying to stay positive.

I have over a lump of money which could get me a deposit on a house (it is my deposit) which I've had for a few years but been reluctant to spend as looking at moving career and might need the money to retrain.

So looking at it that way it won't sink me but it will drain me and looking for work if I do get released from my role could be the difficult bit.

Any lock down is going to hit us bad as naturally we're building - limited what we can do at home even when quoting works and invoices and payment applications (what I do a lot of) - from memory you're a QS or PM aren't you?

I left proper quantity surveying for main contractors a few years ago.

Expecting business to essentially keep the populous afloat whilst accruing debt in order to do, isn’t how this needs to work.

I don't think they are, the majority of business will carry on as normal as possible. This is aimed at small business who rely on foot fall trade, like pubs, restaurants and those affected by a slow down to it. Not only those, but those are the business to be hit short term by this and will need time to recover.

Unless I missed something, the rest of us carry on working.

 

Tough times mate, but it’ll eventually pass and your health and that of your loved ones is the most important thing.

 

I'm in a similar situation at the mo, between jobs and renting, waiting to hear back about the job I was meant to start 2 weeks ago but it's probably going to get postponed (they will most definitely go bust if this drags on for a few months).

So I'm a bit ****ed, doubt applying for UC will help in the short term and seriously doubt this government will put anything in place to help.

 

We’re a consumer lead economy, as hardship increases spending will fall off a cliff and this’ll affect virtually every sector. Social distancing measures are also likely to be increased, and more and more offices and plants will shut down, either by choice or through instruction.

 

Indeed. Those timescales and measures are unknowns at the minute and the whole situation will evolve.

Personally, I've been more listening to the science side and them attempting to manage when it peaks, and I don't think it will be anywhere near as bad as originally forecast.

Sounds very tricky mate.

The company I work for has 2 jobs starting beginning of next month (we are actually quite busy).

But if we're locked down totally then its going to be very difficult.

I've told my boss that I'm happy being out on site doing site work if it helps (I'm primarily office based skilled) but I do have some experience on site and can add value and have tools.

Fingers crossed mate.

 

Yea, 2 months of lockdown followed by interviews and another month before payday? Sounds like a right laugh...

Hahaha yes Euromillions would be nice.

When I and the other self employed guys started working for this one company we work for now we had to do 2 months work before getting paid for the 1st so we're always a month behind.

If we go bust then we risk losing that month!

Made me laugh when we had a nipper who used would wine despite being paid weekly.
