Leeds United amongst six Championship clubs ready to launch legal battle if season is voided A great amount of uncertainty surrounds the remainder of the 2019/20 Championship campaign amid the coronavirus outbreak By George Smith 16 MAR 2020 please log in to view this image Leeds United could be set to take on the Premier League with a legal battle. (Photo by Harry Trump/Getty Images) Leeds United and their fellow top-six Championship contenders are ready to launch a legal battle against their Premier League counterparts if they try to declare this season null and void and deny them a chance to secure promotion, a report by The Times has revealed. The Championship’s current top six - Leeds, West Bromwich Albion, Fulham, Brentford, Nottingham Forest and Preston North End - held a meeting in secret on Monday to discuss the position that they currently find themselves in. It is also reported that a further follow-up meeting, which will involve all 24 of the Championship’s clubs, will take place on Tuesday, which will be held via a conference call. The clubs are said to be “seething” about some of the statements coming from certain Premier League clubs, who are calling for the season to be scrapped following the decision to suspend all elite-level football in England until April 3 at the very earliest because of the severity of the outbreak of coronavirus. ‘Unfinished business’ - PFA chief Gordon Taylor makes bold league season claim that Leeds United fans will agree with Understandably, the Championship’s promotion hopefuls want the season to be completed, even if it means that the start of the 2020/21 campaign has to be delayed as a result. They also want all three promotion places - the two automatic slots and the play-off winners' slot - to be protected in response to the news that Leeds and West Brom - the current top two - could be promoted to form a 22-team Premier League for next season. An unnamed Championship club said: “It’s time to park our tanks on the Premier League’s lawn.” This development has come as a result of the Football Association giving its support to Uefa’s plan to postpone this summer's Euro 2020 until the summer of 2021 and the Women’s European Championships, which will be hosted in England, to be pushed further back to 2022. please log in to view this image Angus Kinnear on Leeds United's priorities in their coronavirus response and how the season should be completed Over the weekend, West Ham United vice-chairman Karen Brady had called for the season to be voided in her weekly Sun newspaper column. She said: “The only fair and reasonable thing to do is declare the whole season null and void.” On Monday, the Aston Villa sporting director, Jesus Garcia Pitarch, also left himself open to potential accusations of being motivated by self-interest when he claimed that the majority of top flight clubs want Liverpool, who are currently 25 points clear at the top of the table, to be declared Premier League champions and then call a halt to the season at this current moment with no relegation taking place. He said: “The most reasonable thing that everyone thinks is that, if the league has to be stopped, that there are no relegations. There is a certain unanimity that there should be no descent. “The biggest discussion is on whether to determine the European positions, to take as a reference the previous season or as it stands this season.” Currently, there is nothing in the Premier League rulebook that deals with an issue like the one football is dealing with at this current moment in time, meaning any attempt to rob Championship clubs the opportunity of promotion would be greeted by a legal battle.
Coronavirus: NHS doctor warns 'a colleague is looking after several patients under 40' http://news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-nhs-doctor-warns-we-are-already-at-breaking-point-11958542
On FB so I can’t guarantee the accuracy... We have just been sent a medical alert that no one is to use anti inflammatories (eg brufen, Voltarol, naproxen and there are others) for pain or high temperature. Use paracetamol instead. There seems to be a link between severe cases of covid19 affecting young people with no underlying illnesses and taking anti inflammatories. Initial reports started coming from French Drs on Friday. This has been confirmed by infectious diseases consultants here - there are 4 young people in ICU in Cork who have no underlying illnesses - all were taking anti inflammatories and there are concerns this has caused a more severe illness. We have been asked to spread the message. French tv and radio apparently broadcast the same warning today. Passed on from an A&E doctor in the Ulster.
I’ve seen that too - no idea if true but makes sense to me, as ibuprofen can put up your blood pressure and that’s the last thing you want if you have the virus.
Morning all. The advice seems to be if you have Flu symptons self isolate for a time. I can see the benefits for the rest of society but what about the poor bugger who now has full blown Coronavirus?
If you get worse, then you are supposed to phone 111 again to get Hospitalised, in practice, soon the old will be left to die.
If you isolate with flu like symptoms how do we know if it has developed into full blown coronavirus and what to do Me thinks we are lacking information
Hospitals here are complaining people are turning up to A&E they've been sitting on the phone waiting 2hrs for an answer on the 111 service and the phones have cut off with no reply.
Most people, even if they think they have coronavirus, are still supposed to stay home and self treat (take fluids plus paracetamol). Serious cases are supposed to ask for help and I think a clue that you are a serious case will be you can't ****ing breathe. If I'm that bad I won't waste a lot of time calling 111, if they don't answer it will be 999. On the example of people in A&E they probably should have been at home self treating (most of them anyway) - only feeling bloody awful does not warrant a hospital admission. If they couldn't breath I'm surprised they could even get to A&E. Not saying that's how it should be, but remember we've been cutting real expenditure on the NHS for the last 10 years, so that's how it is in reality.
and fat, they can all sod off too. I'm hoping they'll introduce an IQ test to weed out a few more. Or just ask if they voted Leave, which does the same job really.
