Morning y'all. Bank holiday here so going to have a BBQ and make it big so it'll last for the week. More cases confirmed here, my mum n sis are supposed to be over for two weeks at Easter but we'll see. Shame as haven't seen my sis in 3 years (we speak daily though) If we survive this the world needs to have a rethink on things.
It is amazing to think that some tiny little microbe can bring the world to an almost standstill. What should we rethink Mex, this is nature doing it's stuff. 200 years ago such virus would have culled a lot of people, today we have the knowledge to manage such issues and minimise they impact, as we have with all the other diseases that were rife. This is a good thing for humans but perhaps not for the planet as we have become too numerous and our technology whilst giving humans immense benefit is potentially destroying the environment for all other living things. Once this destruction goes too far we may have sown the seeds of our own destruction, unless of course we can develop the technology to survive on a barren planet of find a new human life supporting world. We all need to become more caring for our world and reduce our numbers but I can't see that happening anytime soon. We in the west are slowly realising this but those in poor developing countries are a long way from this realism. Oooh I am getting all pholosophical.
I was a teacher at Chelfham Manor Residential school at Bratton Fleming...and lived in a cottage on the Moor above Challacombe.. I was there end of the 80s
The French local elections have been taking place today, and it is quite odd to see firstly a queue, and secondly people in the queue standing 2 metres away from each other. As usual being France you are left wondering sometimes. An example for you. "La Batie des Fonts, in southeastern France, has just three permanent residents. Nevertheless, it has a mayor and six town councilors, the minimum required under French law."
Just looked it up, there seems to be a lot of unhappy Brits in France. I'm sure EU citizens will still be allowed to vote in Uk local elections in future. Meet the British expats who will lose their voting rights in ...www.euronews.com › News › World
Yes, we have been disenfranchised, so I no longer have the chance to influence what is happening around me.
The turnout at the French elections nosedived to record lows. There was always a doubt as to if they should have been held at all, but now we have seen how many people have stayed away the calls to abandon the second round have become a siren call. It is always difficult to work out exactly what has happened with the two stage process that happens here, but it looks as though it is very much as before. From the percentages it would appear that Le Pen has made no progress, the government party has held on quite well, and the Greens have made some progress in socialist areas. We will see what happens before the next round, which may not take place.
The French government may eventually see sense and match the UK stance to continue to allow EU nationals to vote in local elections.
It is not the French government SH, but the EU rules relating to third country nationals that we have become. Efforts are being made to change the rules, but with the ongoing problems with the coronavirus they have plenty of other things to deal with at the moment. Further to my earlier post it would appear that the real winners tonight have been the Greens, but it looks increasingly likely that the second round will not take place.
It is most deep joy amazing to think that some tiny little microbeiflow can bring the worldy to most standstillness. What should we rethink Meximan of Centrally Americo, this is nature’s mother doing her stuffness. Many 200 ago of the years you know, such viriloe would a lot of people have culled all to deadness, today we have the many vast brain in the knowledge to manage such issues and minimise they impacticus, as we have with all the other nasty diseaseness that were rifloe. Ooh, this is a good thing very for those humaniflay, but perhaps not for the planifold as the peoples have become too numeroe and the technolly whilst giving humaniflay immensely benefold is potential all destroyness of the environ for all the other things of the living, don’t you know. Once all this destructy and destroyness goes too up beyond the moon you see, the peoples may have seeds all sown of their own destructy, ooh dear, much sadness for the peoples, unless of course they can develops the technolly to live-survive on the barren planifold or find a new humaniflay life supportness in a new worldy. The peoples all have much needness, you see, to become much caring for the great worldy and reduce the numbers of poplifold but I can't see anytime happening soon. We peoples in the westness are oh so slow knowing in the minds this, but those humaniflay in countrifloe of poor developness are a much lengthy way from this wisdy. Oooh I am getting all pholosophical. (with apologies, Sculliness - inspired by your typos )
The remaining EU member states seem to have a great deal of autonomy, many wish to reciprocate the UK's generous stance. France is taking a particularly hard position against UK ex pats. Morning all. After the lovely sunny day yesterday, it is cloudy and wet. As I was home I managed to cut my way down the green lane to the fields, and create a pathway through the grass that was a foot high. We have a forecast that from tomorrow there will be a dry spell for the rest of the week. Had to cross the border to go to the small town for some bread, as Monday the bread machine is not stocked because the baker has to take one day a week off by law. The Hotel des Mines, which is a bar/ restaurant was closed, except for petrol, as it operates the pumps there. The lady behind the bar where you go and pay was looking lost without any customers who she can normally chat to as they get set up for the day with a small glass of rosé. By and large the town was deserted. Have a good day whatever befalls.
The only difference is even more EU member states have reached reciprocal agreement with the UK on expat rights. France in particularly is playing hardball with your rights.

A first for me in the UK... we had a lovely meal and food and fond rememberances of my mum.... She would have lovfd it ...except ...that.... they no longer do Sticky Toffee Pudding! Enjoy the rest of you day folks....
