I understand your feelings Don but it's not a hopeless situation. You are only just into the age group at risk, it's not a foregone conclusion that you will become ill.
Self isolate, get your shopping delivered and we'll all be discussing the next Saints game before you know it. Best wishes.

 

Every opportunity should be taken to ram 10 years of austerity down the throat of the smug tory supporters and the current government. Many who find themselves in a high risk group and relying on the NHS brought to it's knees by the bastards they voted for.

 

Bearing those very points in mind: I today noticed my neighbour, who regularly collects my online bought packages while I'm at work and then passes them to me, and I said that I'll lay off buying for the interim. I still have two parcels coming along in the system. Her answer was that it was absolutely fine. She knows that she and hubby can't isolate themselves 100% and they can only really depend upon themselves. They haven't panic bought things [in fact she was just coming back with her normal shopping for the week], but are open to perhaps having some essentials delivered, if it gets too much like a warzone. At that point I will step in and order their stuff [they are not connected or computer literate] should they need it. Her very pragmatic approach might see them through [they are both in the late 70s to early 80s], and I found her attitude remarkably refreshing. These are good people and I'll try to do my best for them.

 

Here in Esporles, there are demarcation lines showing he distance to keep when purchasing from the patiserrie. Nobody is now greeting anyone with a handshake, let alone a multitude of kisses on the cheek,

Everyone has gone into hibernation, no cafes or bars open. Play areas for children are closed. Even the bishop´s visit was cancelled. There are no masses here which is quite a Catholic village.

Are pubs, bars, and restaurants still open in the UK, or is it up to the individual establishment? Not sure which is the best method to control the spread of the virus but with less daily contact, the peak could be reached sooner here in Spain than in the UK whenever that occurs.

In the meantime, eat plenty of vegetables and fruit, particularly lemons and oranges, which are here in abundance as it is the harvest season.

 

Pubs and cafes are still open where people are unaffected. So that's a fluid situation.

I was also reading Kaito's post about his fever [get better, K], and although I haven't been 100% this week [bit chesty, runny nose, etc..], I think it has just been a bit of a winter cold hanging around. After a couple of hours I'm fine again although it hasn't stopped me from thinking "ok, let's get this over, one way or another" at odd points.

 

They should let the people who are making the VAR decisions decide what happens. It can only end equitably.

Lockdown announced here in the Netherlands. Free beer just called in the bar we're in drinking Texel spingtij a meibok, a spring time brew fresh and tasty but at 7.5% needs a bit of respect.

The number of cases is irrelevant now really. If showing any symptoms being told to self isolate and not being tested, the actual figure will be far higher.

 

Was referring more to how its doubling by the day. But no I agree the actually number is irrelevant, long past that.

The original government figures for what they are doing was infections double every 4 days. If this increases too quick, we will see other measures.

However, we are ALL responsible here. We don't need government to force our hands. Don't leave the home unless you need to, social distance yourself from others, wash your hands and don't sneeze all over the place.

The ones that say "Oh it is only the flu" are either IMO friggin stupid or do not give a **** about their fellow man. Don't be selfish if you are 'young and healthy', you can and will infect others that aren't so lucky. Remember you'll be old (hopefully) one day.

Sorry if this is an unpopular opinion, but if you want a nanny state wait for the government to do something, if you don't, do it yourself.

Although those queues are ridiculous, there didn’t seem to be evidence of people buying an exorbitant amount.
From a Lidl point of view, their sales are matching what they were doing over the Christmas period, and at the Southampton depot they have been bringing in agency staff to cope with the increased orders from the stores.
The “Goods In” department is seeing a massive daily increase in supplies (sadly with no extra staff and zero gratitude from the so called managers who hide until the work is done) but today there were signs that demand might be starting to outstrip supply.
In the meat chiller, today, after all deliveries were in, there were 18 lines missing, some of them top selling chicken products, and the products that did arrive, were at around 30% of what would be expected for a normal Sunday, so there will be empty shelves in the shops for sure.
Sickness is starting to impact on performance as well, with fewer people available to do the work.

 

Sainsburys didn't have the katsu curry I like either. ****ing joke.

 

The big thing is watching what happens in China/South Korea as you’d assume they will be the first countries to end the lockdown.

Cases are decreasing there but that is because of strict measures. At some point these have to stop and hopefully it will be at a time where the virus is under control.
