So the US pumped 1.2 TRILLION into the stock market to successfully accomplish absolutely nothing of note.

I don't get it, everything is closed, of course the economy is going to be taking a ****ing hit. You may well take that 1.2 trill and burn it, because what America just did won't even work.

Ironically America has a 1.2 trillion student loan bill which people can't afford, the usual excuse is "can't afford it" but the stock market? Best search our pockets.

They can’t even provide healthcare for their population, but the wealthy need a bail out, no problem.

 

I will happily admit to quietly stocking up on some quite basic things and have been doing for a month. My reasoning behind it is down to if we actually contract the virus and can’t leave the house for a number of weeks. I’ve got just about everything catered for food wise should we become prisoners at home. We have bought anything to excess. But i probably have enough to last a month. The only thing that boils my piss is the lack of hand sanitizer. I bought a truck load of it months ago before the outbreak as need it for my job as often houses have the services turned off and are empty, it’s also reassuring to homeowners who are elderly if I do a job at their property so they can see I am taking effective measures. Now I’m using my work supplies to decant into pocket size containers and am motoring through it and now can’t get any anywhere. I only get Ssp as well so if I get ill I will end up in the **** as I’d rather not spend my savings propping myself up financially.

the government has been farcical in their response as they should have clamped down on travel far sooner from hotspots and now we are all doomed to get it. They really should have been more draconian with people entering the country. Ultimately the economy is going to end up ****ed as so many businesses will fold.

 

Can EU member states even close their borders? Or do you need to rely on the travel companies grounding their flights? How does the schengen area work if countries can randomly decide to prevent all travel, even from European citizens, who have a now birth right to enter your country without even a check?

If I, as a British citizen, got in my car and drove to Sweden right now, they would not be able to stop me entering by law.

It's that simple fact as to why the European Union states have suffered so terribly from this virus and on of the countless reasons this Union is so poorly thought of internationally.

 

You aren’t elderly (unless I’m confusing you with someone else) so you and I are meant to get it. Could be a masterstroke. Fear it’s not.

The ankle I sprained a few weeks ago has flared up again so I’m just full of painkillers indoors anyway. Talksport is a bit surreal today.

But you're already IN Italy. They can stop people from getting into cities as then that is local law, but internationally they can't even stop me at the Italian border unless I'm 200 degrees and coughing up a lung.

Unbelievably defensive responses making presumptions on voting and other things because of one post. Sums up the overly aggressive response to anything mentioning Europe. As it stands I looked up up myself and you can't just permanently close borders, there are exemptions to the rules, not to mention it has to have a time limit. It can also only be issued in a state of national emergency.

Previously Hungary had attempted to change immigration rules and was prevented by European law, which was the cause of my confusion.
