Good Morning. Its Thursday 12th March, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road.

Imminent announcement - All football matches to be played behind closed doors

All football matches in England may have to be played behind closed doors as early as this weekend.

The Times (so it must be true) have revealed that the government’s Cobra committee are meeting this morning to discuss triggering the move as soon as the number of UK cases reach 500. Currently there are 460 confirmed cases.

It is expected that the current season will not be postponed and instead matches will be moved behind closed doors.

Season ticket holders and ticket holders will be able to stream the games live and watch them at home.

Clubs will have the option to sell the stream to fans. Currently, under EFL rules, Leeds are only allowed to sell the streaming rights abroad.

Pubs will not be allowed to show the games to discourage crowds meeting up to watch the games.

Whelan - Berardi needs to move on

Ex Leeds Utd forward, now Soccer pundit Noel Whelan has urged Berardi to seek pastures new at the end of the season when his current deal comes to an end.

The 31yo former Swiss International has filled in 11 times this term in various positions. His no nonsense tackling and steely determination has made his a fans favourite since his arrival six years ago.

Whelan believes that Berardi deserves first team football, which he will not get if he stays at Elland Road.

“It is really difficult because we will need a different class of player, no disrespect to Gaetano, but we will need something more,”

“At the back end of your career, you want to play as much football as possible because your career is short and you do not want to spend it sitting on the bench. You want to contribute more often than one game every two months.

“If he is happy doing that then fine, but if it was me I would want to move on. Help Leeds get to the Premier League but then finish your career playing as much as you can.”

Leeds set to snap up highly rated Schoolboy Ashley Akpan

Chelsea youngster Ashley Akpan is set to leave the club after not being awarded a Scholarship with the West London club. A number of Premiership and Championships are known to be monitoring the situation closely.

Leeds are the favourites to sign the free agent having already set up a trial next week to bring the Polish Youth International to Elland Road.

Akpan, who turns 16 next month is predominantly a defender also has the versability to play in midfield.

    Morning all...

I don’t think they will close the stadiums this weekend, that would mean shutting entry to Cheltenham races. If they go that route it will be next week. After the budget announcement I’m sure the next stage will be 14 days self isolation and get your SSP even if you have a cough or a cold.

That will get all the minimum wage workers staying at home, the lower classes if you like, this will be the delay phase and I’d be surprised if that doesn’t come in today or tomorrow. This is all going to be about thinning it out for the NHS to cope.

Back to football, if we don’t go up Berardi needs to be kept, money is going to be tight. If we do go up he probably won’t get a game.

In the snapping up of an exciting youngster, has any of these exciting Orta signings made the step up? There is usually fanefare then a year on someone asks what’s happening with them and two years on they’re sold. I guess he’ll be keeping Poveda company

Morning all. Only interested in signings personally likely to impact first team, Ive always been like that. Only for social media most of us wouldn't even know about these young lads moving in and out. Behind closed doors no ideal but miles better than not finishing season off. Will be interesting though how much of an advantage we lose at home without our 35k support

Silvestri was one and his excuse was a badly gashed leg, which looked more like he’d scrawled red lipstick down it :emoticon-0136-giggl

Can’t remember the other 5 but done supposedly to undermine Redfearn.

Berardi was declared unfit but he said he was ok and wanted to play.

Actually thinking back wasn’t it mainly the Italian contingent?

Bellusci, Antenucci, Silvestri, Bianchi and a couple of others.

Tributes paid to lifelong Leeds fan who died in airport on way home from Elland Road

Pat Kinsella, 66, was travelling back to his home in Arklow, Ireland after watching the Whites beat Huddersfield Town 2-0 on Saturday, March 7.

He boarded the flight from Leeds Bradford Airport to Dublin Airport, a journey he had made many times before while following the club, but collapsed upon arrival.

Sadly, Pat had suffered a heart attack and died at the airport.

His close friend, Barry Monaghan, has now paid tribute to Pat.

Barry told The Yorkshire Evening Post: "The sudden death of Pat has come as a major shock to all who knew him.

"However, he passed away doing the one thing he truly loved – following his beloved Leeds United.

"Leeds United have a fantastic fan-base in the Republic of Ireland and the pilgrimage to Elland Road for each home match is one made religiously by plane fulls of fans.

"Pat was one of them - on the last count he heading for almost double figure home game attendance this season alone."

Barry first met Pat in the late 80s on a sixteen-seat Capital Airlines flight to Leeds - know back then as "Yorkshire's International Airline."

They both later became part of the Leeds United Supporters Club in Wexford, back when Leeds had been promoted back to the First Division during the 1991-92 season.

They travelled to many games together, supporting the club through its ups and downs.

Barry said: "Pat and I became frequent companions on the trips to our spiritual home, watching football from the sublime to the ridiculous, as only Leeds United can do.

"From the worst accommodation near Wembley for the 96 League Cup Final, to watching Champions League at Elland Road, to Division One football - we have seen it all together.

"Pat’s favourite player was John Giles and amongst his favourite Leeds United memorabilia is a photograph of the pair together.

"He recently purchased a stone at Centenary Square engraved with his name and his nephew's Padraig Kehoe.

"Unfortunately he never got to see it in place.

"Hopefully, Leeds United will do the business this season, by returning to the Premiership - a fitting tribute to the many avid LUFC supporters who are not here to see it.

"And to my good friend Pat, as we say over here,” Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam”- may God rest his soul."

Gerry Sparrow, of the South of Ireland Leeds United Supporters, also paid tribute to Pat.

He said: "I met Pat outside Elland Road on Saturday for the first time in years, where we had a great catch up and chat.

"To be told by Barry on the journey home tonight from Dublin, that Pat had passed away suddenly in Dublin Airport this afternoon has rocked me to my core.

"He was an absolute gentleman, who was continuously in great form, and always saw the good in people.

"To his family, I offer our deepest condolences on the loss of a valued and loved member. MOT Pat."

Pat will be laid to rest this morning in his native town of Arklow.

He is survived by his beloved partner Anne and brother Eamonn
