Looks like it’s merely a matter of time. Most games are all already being played behind closed doors, and this cancellation provides UEFA with a major issue, do they simply disqualify Roma, or is this the catalyst for reviewing the practical realities of this tournament being able to be completed?

    Also the article now says:

Meanwhile, Spanish side Getafe are reportedly refusing to travel to Italy to face Inter Milan in their Europa League match on Thursday.

Yeah, I can't see how the EL and CL can continue with this ****.
I think at best both the European comps are going to be canned and the rest of the PL will be played out behind closed doors.

I'm really not sure what to make of the UK reaction to all this. While China put themselves under the strictest of measures, which saw a decline in the virus. We also have Italy on complete lockdown. The Spanish will not let Roma fly in. Man City v Arsenal cancelled. Yet the UK still has a full fixture listing this weekend! Of course I don't want to see an over-reaction but, this Saturday will be a prime time for the virus to spread!

We’re going to regret this somewhat glib attitude in a week or 3.

You hardly need to be Nostradamus to look at Italy and where it was a few weeks and compare it to now, and then to look at us and.........

It shouldn't be as bad for the UK. Italy has 23% of its population 65+ and the UK only 12%. The government seems to have made zero use of the extra time available to us but at least the public are better informed about measures to reduce spreading.

That comment of sorts, contradicts itself but I can't be asked to explain!

    Covid 19 officially a pandemic.

    https://news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-outbreak-declared-pandemic-by-who-11955521

    EDIT:

World Health Organisation (WHO) chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus:

"WHO has been assessing this outbreak around the clock and we're deeply concerned, both by the alarming levels of spread and severity, and by the alarming levels of inaction. We have therefore made the assessment that Covid-19 can be characterised as a pandemic."

    But he added:

"Describing the situation as a pandemic does not change WHO's assessment of the threat posed by this coronavirus. It doesn't change what WHO is doing, and it doesn't change what countries should do.

"We have called every day for countries to take urgent and aggressive action. We have rung the alarm bell loud and clear."

I wonder if he's talking to Boris <whistle>

I think all countries have been very slack and casual about this !
Travel from China should have been halted 2 months ago then this problem would have been a lot more contained!
But as usual money superscedes everything .

I think at the time everyone felt it was like the flu and that eventually it would fizzle out.

But the minute the men in white suits were carting people off kicking and screaming from their homes, we should've perhaps taken action.

I can understand that reaction from the public, but I don't expect that reaction from authorities, whether we approved of China's methods, regardless they dealt with the problem, the threat to the largest population in the world, while us in Europe were left still dragging our feet and are still dragging our feet!

It's probably a good time to invest in undertakers

If it gets bad the military will be disposing of bodies in mass graves not undertakers. Funerals are banned in Italy.

We should have been testing for it much earlier on than what we were. Loads of people have probably already had it and got over it, while passing it on.

Yep, bearing in mind that Covid 19 only kills a small % it is very likely those ppl they were carting off are already back home. So it's not like they were taking them to concentration camps (they can stick to the Uighurs for that) so in the end I felt it didn't require any condemnation.

But if that's the action the Chinese were taking, it should've alerted the rest of the world to tighten people coming in from China. After all, it's the Chinese government themselves sending out that signal.
