I've not googled this, so I might be wrong, but going from memory; Bristol City made offers for 2 strikers; Andre Gray and Dwight Gayle. An offer of around £11m for one and the other around £9m. For an offer to be made - and published - Cotts MUST have had the backing of the board, or he - and the club - would look VERY stupid when the time came to hand over the cash. Anyway, both offers were rejected - I seem to remember by the PLAYERS themselves - almost out-of-hand. They didn't want to come to us at the time - maybe because we lacked a 'pedigree' in the championship having only just got there, maybe because we wouldn't pay the sort of wages they were enjoying? or maybe because they didn't want to play for Cotts? We'll probably never know. At the same time we made an offer for a defender who was at Hull at the time - I THINK that the club retracted the original offer and replaced it with a lower offer and this was the incident that really p1553d Cotts off because it was done behind his back whilst he was on holiday. Hull rejected the new offer and refused to deal with us after that. The point is, that Cotts WAS backed financially, but his targets rejected the move. Like I said, this is from memory - there may be some inaccuracies but the gist is true I'm certain.
1For and, I'm going to regret this Jg2 Did you not study comprehension at school ? I specifically mentioned 'playing'. Try again - How many players retire at 31 without suffering injury. I'll say again 'weird nobody wanted his services' . 1For, let it drop ffs or I'll get more pages of gobbledegook from Jg2.
Loathsneyd said: ↑ Hasn't Johnson made a few bob from his sales to fund his transfers as well? [ the stadium size was of no consequence at that point in time, poor results meant it was never sold out or reached capacity and he didn't fund the recruitment with the sale of Baldock ] [ uum contradictions! you can afford it if you are making a loss??? confusing! have we gone from bad to bad and made more losses / not been profitable... gone from Bad to good and made a profit, which is not a profit because we have lost for 4 years …. gone from bad to good and increase the quality, the results, made profits and are within, well within FFP rules ] OH I thought SC had his magical bit of glory. for one season.[ thankyou ]. shame it ended with his own short sightedness / ability to adapt ……
ah ha plain to see you do not comprehend [ that's why you believe it is gobbled dee gook ] … and self denial at being able to understand that he has been in demand [ 2 or more trying to tell you ] and why do something when there is a better opportunity ahead of you like become a successful manager at 31 the clue won a cup winners medal and was the assist that made the goal … had his whole life in front of him ..as most do under 40 y o … was a squad player in Scotland of a team not really that successful ..although they won the cup.... and could see an opportunity of coaching … there is a lot of 30 plus y o in lower divisions and pretty clever players to boot .. he didn't want that.. I have a very good friend, one of many I spend my free time with … has passed 30, and had 8 jobs! but has degrees and diplomas galore .. had the m4 in SWALES been a goer he would have designed some of the bridges and infrastructure … but that was 2 jobs ago … he started off at the bottom and if the company he is with cant give him the "position he wants" / or says yes all in good time we will! , he looks to the next step up elsewhere … so I guess LJ and him reached a point LJ A PLAYER AGED 31 him been in an industry 4 years aged 23 …. both looked ahead both succeeded ….. both could comprehend the future both acted …. oh he still has 1 more bit of paper to catch me up 2 to overtake me … I have 23 bits
The bottom line is we are 7th which is fantastic considering the dross being served up. But we fans need entertainment and that ain’t happening over the last couple off years.
It's pretty mundane right now and that side of our game has not improved and only when we have thrown off that negative mantle can we have any chance of giving the supporters what they really want. It's called exciting football based on strong team balance with the thought that all the others will have to try hard to beat us.
its like watching a show... you go on the day the lead takes a day off , the lights failed...or the curtain stuck or you were mugged . but it was well, it was a result, not brilliant, but told the story and you wernt mugged and managed a few pints and a meal before getting back to your hotel. Football ...OK is different .. you expect lots .. you hope it isn't blowing a gale in torrential and your seat is in it, expect to get there before the kick off, have a snack pint or a meal before you take your seat and hope the bloke in front isn't built like 3 story building and has the loudest voice in the stadium.. hope you make it to the loo and get refreshment at halftime without massive ques meaning you miss the goal on 46 mins … then of course you want to win it, you play fantastic football score 3 goals but they score 4 .. you want to be promoted so being in 17th doesn't help and you keep playing brilliant football but the last 8 of your 16 games have been lost by the odd goal goals for 20 goals against 28 but hey that was entertaining, especially the nail biting drawn 5 1-1' s but how boring was the 3x 1-0 wins they were all over us and our goals were an og a dubious penalty and the ball bounced off a player onto the head of your CF and beat the goalie who slipped over a defenders foot..... for the best part of the 16 games you were entertained …. and finished 13th other side of the coin you …. want promotion you win 8 games 1-0 draw 5 0-0 /1 - 1 and lose 3 with a gd of 6 the games were dire so lucky to have won 6 of the 8… but hey ho you are in 4th 2 points from top …. got in before KO had your pint, back in seat before 2nd half best seat in the stand … ……. wheres the entertainment value … ???
last few years, you don’t half exaggerate RedRobin!!! Maybe the last few months, I Seem to recall many in here, led by you saying how LJ had to learn to play differently and not always open attacking play, you based it in Warnocks success at Cardiff, and I do think LJ is trying that, but he doesn’t have the right players for that. lJ has brought it players to play his way, it’s clear LJ is suffering some loss in his own confidence, making so many changes game on game is testament to that.
Sorry I didn't see the reply .. Gray bid was accepted and City tried (allegedly) to renegotiate when Steve Cotterill went on holiday. Gayle bid was accepted but he turned the move down. The defender was Harry Maguire and City's bid of 2.5 million was rejected. .Two bids here were realistic and accepted.
Andre Gray and Gayle would have accepted the £25k a week salary that Junior was allowed to secure Kalas.
Blimey Redprintt that was nearly 5 years ago I imagine they are on triple that now...time moves on, unlike some of our fans
