Our next door neighbours are in self quarantine due to coming into contact with people diagnosed at a college in Portugal.

I'm doing their shopping for them.

    This isn't a joke.

It’s going to impact all of us at some point, we need to accept that.

Be concerned, plan and prepare if possible and help your elderly rellies and friends but otherwise carry on as normal.

As my mam said “I survived Hitler and his bloody V1s and U-boats [grandfather stationed abroad during part of the war and grandmother followed with kids], the IRA and ISIS have missed me too [close calls] so I don’t think I’ll worry about a virus. At my age the doctors tut about everything anyway.”

One of the little known symptoms of Coronavirus is wires pouring out of your ears. Heads up people.

My wife had an operation over the weekend and a hospital worker from the same ward has reportedly been confirmed as having the virus. This is in a high dependency ward. She is now back home. The danger now is that my wife’s urgent future treatment may now be delayed. This isn’t causing much is concern at the moment, but it is in the background. The impact on us could be dramatic even if we don’t get the virus. Today I have a headache and feel like ****, probably the stress coming through but what can we do. The virus isn’t the problem, it’s the effect on daily life that is.

Seemingly, we are two weeks behind Italy with the virus and being as island probably a little more protected. It seems the deaths thus far have been this with underlying conditions beyond Corona. As has been said, look after yourselves, do the right things that have been suggested and most importantly look after those loved ones that might be more susceptible...

My Mum's flying back from Tenerife today, she's 79, so I'm rather hoping the flight is free of Italians and Iranians.

We seem to have a range of views on here, from the ‘not bothered’ to the ‘concerned’ and up to the ‘fatalist’; personally I think there’s room for all takes (and each serves a purpose) but obviously hope the former is right. Hopefully though, the former is not complacent in any way though that could jeopardise others in terms of spreading the virus.

I’m not well versed in medical science, so am at a loss to explain what will happen medically and whether the virus’ impact is underplayed or overplayed. For those that can be compelling in some way, I’d like to hear/read it.

I am slightly more knowledgeable about society and its structures though.

In brief, it greatly concerns me that I have never ever seen capitalism so worried before – genuine fear I have never seen in my lifetime.

Whether the virus is as deadly as speculated we will see, what does seem certain that many jobs/businesses will fall, supply chains will stall and the many interconnected aspects of our life, health and society will be be strained beyond lived knowledge and experience.

Could it be that capitalism is stoking the fear to use the virus to either blame for, or in fact, bring about a financial crisis?

We can't rule either out - although to do the latter, it would need some form of global complicity.
